Creek certainly is a nice pick up. IU will be horrible next year, but steadily improve for the years after that. Those '09 players will get a lot of early PT and probably take their lumps early, but over the long haul it will be valuable experience for them, kind of like this past year was for guys like McCamey on the Illini.

I believe Crean is the guy who went to IU...correct?
We'll see about the rest...

Indiana GETS ANOTHER commitment today!
Rivals #123 Verdell Jones (PG, Illinois) has committed to Indiana today.
Crean has been on the job for about a month...and the results are just absolutely outstanding.

Well when you have 8 scholarships to give away...
Jones will not be ready to play at the Big Ten level his freshman year. He is freakishly skinny and struggles to gain any weight. He has the potential to be a solid player down the road, but it's going to take a while for him to develop.

How many other DI players were on the floor? A couple of MAC kids maybe, but other than that? Look... I said it many times, Verdell has the potential to be a solid player, but he's got a long way to go. He definitely understands the game, but physically he does not have great athleticism and has been trying to put on weight for years and much like me when I was his age... metabolism just won't let him.
What is he going to do against a bigger guard like McCamey or Kramer? It's one thing when you have the athleticism to take someone to the hole or create your own shot like Manny Harris of Michigan can, but it's a whole other ball game with VJ. What is he going to do on defense? He'll be totally overmatched as he was vs Bayless.
That is the reason that Illinois didn't offer the home-town product a scholarship even when we didn't have any of the '09-'10 guards committed and were starving for guard play. He was going to be the second-coming of Calvin Brock, a wiry-thin guard who had to redshirt his freshman year to gain strength, and wasn't even a contributor until his redshirt junior season. Considering this is your highest rated recruit coming in, you're in some serious trouble going forward. I wish VJ the best, but I don't think he's the world-beater you are hoping for.

I wasn't aware that he was rated higher than Nick Williams.
It took Crean a month to put together a better recruiting class than Illinois....and basically that makes me happy.
Jones will never be the go to guy at IU, but when you bring in role players and they happened to be one of the top 150 players in their class nationally...I'd say that's not a bad catch.

I'm not sure how Legion, Keller, and Simpson are worse than 3 unheralded players, a walk on, and a couple of role players. Factor in that Illinois has 4 top 150 players coming in '09 (3 of which are top 80) and 2 top 25 players in '10, and I like the future of the Illini a lot more than that of the Loosiers. Have fun winning 12 games next year Mr. "I know Indiana will never have to go through a year like Illinois did this year!"

Bayless looked WAY better...I don't care what the stats were...

Head to head is deceiving... they weren't even guarding each other. I'm not sure why they wouldn't put Bayless on VJ, but I know why VJ wasn't on Bayless.

Dominique Keller...........is an random Juco player. His other offers were from basketball powerhouses Charlotte and Oregon State.
Stan Simpson.........is a 3 Star Recruit from Illinois. He is the headliner of this recruiting class. Way to go Bruth.
Legion is a transfer........let's see him on the court without the issues before we call him amazing.
Illinois recruiting class is not very good......and will fit right in with the guys that are already there that aren't very good.
As far as the rolling on the floor laughing....you just said that two Top 150 players NATIONALLY are unheralded. Then of course there is the Cleveland player of the year.......

I'm not sure why they wouldn't put Bayless on VJ, but I know why VJ wasn't on Bayless. Probably for the same reason that MOST COACHES DONT' MATCH THEIR BEST SCORER AGAINST THE OTHER TEAMS BEST SCORER. I'm sure you understand BASIC Basketball concepts so I don't feel the need to hold your hand like a child.

Feller is actually kind of funny and entertaining these days. Normally I am annoyed ... but today he just seems to be able to make me chuckle a little here and there. Nice break from the boring routine of the office.
