Hoosiers are off to a 2-0 start, albeit the competition has been pitiful at best.
It's easy to see the improvement from last year to this year.....and being the youngest team in American two years in a row that's all you can ask to see.
Tre Roberson broke his leg which his a kick int he pants, but thankfully IU have an explosive passer as his backup in Cameron Coffman.
As a freshman at Arizona Western last fall, Coffman put up impressive numbers. He threw for 2,244 yards with 21 touchdowns and six interceptions. He completed 61.4 percent of his passes. He also ran for two touchdowns and caught a TD pass. He led his JUCO team to the National Junior College Athletic Association national championship game after his team won 11 games. In the championship game he threw for 291 yards and four touchdowns.

Wilson has been making some moves on the recruiting trails lately. After flipping Antonio Allen from Ole Miss, it looks like recent de-commits Darius Latham (Wisconsin) and David Kenney III (Iowa) will most likely commit to the Hoosiers. All are in-state 4 star recruits. Wilson better look out though, he may get the wrath of other Big Ten coaches for breaking the gentleman's agreement!

Wilson's done well with the Zook rebuild model so far... 1st season: Lose big 2nd season: Lose small 3rd season: win small 4th season: win big. I'll be the first to admit that I was skeptical of him when he first came, but something has clicked since the B1G season has started. The loss to Ball State is still a worrisome sign, but if they can pull out a B1G win or two (at Illinois certainly looks plausible) and he lands some of these 4* recruits (assuming they pan out), he may be on his way to making the Hoosiers a bowl team in the not too distant future.

So how does IU football look this spring? I'm hoping (and think) that they will be a lot tougher this year and maybe .500 in the Big Ten.

Wow! I'm not gonna like. Despite everything, I was not very impressed with IU's football team. Gimmicky offense, and zero defense. I'd love to see them play an opponent like Michigan straight up and not try to do the P. T. Barnum offense they're running now. And Kevin Wilson comes off as a real jerk in interviews - like he has no time for the interviewer (though I know the B1G network sideline interviewer is a former Michigan player, and I hate that sort of thing myself!). Quite honestly, if Michigan had not turned the ball over as often as they did, they would have scored 80 points! And Michigan's offense is not very good all things considered.

You cannot say, "If Michigan has not turned the ball over..." because both teams turned the ball over the same amount of times. In fact, it was abnormal for Gardner to NOT throw an INT. I think it's hilarious when the Michigan faithful have been constantly building Greg Mattison's back to back top 20 defenses, and then they give up a combined 90 points in back to back games. IU's offense is good, not gimmicky. Quite honestly, if the game isn't played in the Big House, IU might not give up that 4th quarter lead.
(By the way, love that this section of bethel hoops finally got some action...)

Okay, buddy! Two can play at this game! First, to say that IU turned the ball over as well is a non sequitur. Maybe, just maybe, Michigan forced those turnovers. But if Michigan and Gardner don't commit turnovers, then the score is nowhere near close - perhaps that has the ring of tautology, but it's still a valid argument. As for Gardner "normally" throwing INT's? No amount of hyperbole makes that a valid statement. While I admit that IU shredded Michigan's defense way more than I am comfortable with, some of those points are the near direct result of turnovers by Michigan, giving IU a short field (i.e., the fumbled pitch on the option by Toussaint gave IU the ball at Michigan's 5!). And as for UM giving up 90 points in two games, at least some of that came during the OT game vs. Penn State, where the defense is always placed just 5 yards short of the red zone on every session of OT. One other thing - are you not going to come to Kevin Wilson's defense (No pun intended! Or maybe there was!), given my comments about him?

But if Michigan and Gardner don't commit turnovers, then the score is nowhere near close - perhaps that has the ring of tautology, but it's still a valid argument. So, UM forced the IU turnovers, but IU did not force the UM turnovers? If you believe that, I just don't know what to say. IU has a turnover rate -0.14 and UM has a turnover rate of -0.29. A pretty minute difference. I think it is safe to say with the turnovers in this game being equal, it did not favor one side. However; of course, if one team had zero turnovers, it would have changed the final score! Devin Gardner has started 12 games and thrown 15 interceptions in his career. In 10 of those 12 starts, he has thrown at least one interception. How does 10 out of 12 NOT fit the definition of "normally"? While I won't deny this, why can't I say the exact same thing in IU's case? One of IU's turnovers came on the exact play after Gardner fumbled. Call me crazy for wanting to cancel those two turnovers out. The other turnover happened at Michigan's 6 yard line. Please tell me that turnover had no implication on the score! Really? a 4 OT game that garnered a COMBINED 15 points, and you want to use extra time for a reason of giving up points? Nope, because I'm not an IU fan. I do like Wilson as a coach for what he did at Oklahoma and IU, but I know absolutely nothing about him personally. Besides, he can't be as much of a jerk as their basketball coach or Wisonsin's former coach!
