CUfan, are the recent rumors about Cornerstone true? It could be a long winter if so.

Wow. I've been busy for a few weeks and haven't checked back in here. The SD news is crazy. I have been skimming through all the posts I missed but still haven't look close enough to even catch a definite reason why. It doesn't make sense to me why a kid would leave a program with a young and seemingly energetic coach, with a superior campus, coming off a Freshman year where the kid started and went to the Elite 8 to sit out a year and go within the conference to St. Francis. Anyone got any specific inside info?
Also, missed everything about what Loucks is saying in the previous post about Cornerstone. What happened there? All the news is getting me fired up for the MCC Season.

People outside of Indiana don't know high school basketball and Loucks, what were you talking about? I was hoping CUfan would confirm/deny the rumor. I don't want to start something that isn't true. You can look at the mlive.com WHAC forum and they're discussing it over there.

Is this regarding 3 players being dismissed and 2 others receiving a 10 game suspension?

Yeah. Is it true? Snikkers is their key returner, it'd stink to lose him after losing 5 important seniors last year.

You can look at the mlive.com WHAC forum and they're discussing it over there. Sorry I have not been on here for a while. The rumors appear to be true. The scuttlebut is that Snikkers (a starter in the second half of last year, and a sophomore at the time) along with Voorhees and Jolliffe were let go, and that Albert and Venema were given 10 game suspensions. The further rumor is that Venema (a returning sophomore) decided to quit the team. All this involved violating team rules, and I think we all know what that means. At any rate, you are correct about this coming season - it could be a long one, but we do have 6 talented freshmen coming in, 4 or 5 good returning sophomores, and our point guard is the only senior. We will, I think, be talented but very, very young. The loss of Snikkers is significant - Venema had good potential, but did not show much at all last year, and the other guys were practice players at best. We'll see what happens. Again, I stress this is all rumor, but I suspect it is true, as the guys on MLive that have commented are very reliable. When I get confirmation of the shakeout, I'll let you all know if you're interested.

Thanks, Kyle. Things have been quite busy with some personal and family issues - nothing serious, other than "stages on life's way" sorts of things. At any rate, when basketball season gets going, I'm sure I'll be on here from time to time.

Nice Kierkegaard reference to "stages..."
Hope all the wayward players from CU or BC or wherever rebound in Christ at another school.

Yeah. Is it true? Snikkers is their key returner, it'd stink to lose him after losing 5 important seniors last year. Snikkers the key returner? Maybe. But Jamin Olds is the lone senior, should be the starting point guard, and is also a very good outside shooter, free throw shooter, passer, and is very athletic for only 6'. Of course, he is returning from ACL surgery, but has paced himself will and if he can get into condition, should have a great senior campaign. That being said, Snikkers was probably the second most experienced returning player, could rebound, play defense (though he is not especially quick), and can knock down the 3 from time to time. We actually lost 6 seniors - Tien, DeSantis, Jonker (a huge loss; first team All American), Wurn, and both Bronkema brothers (Luke graduated in 3 years, and decided to take a job rather than return for another season). That's around 64 points a game that graduated. So, yes, we will need some new guys to step up. Should be fun.

You could be facing a season like Bethel did a few years ago when William Walker and the boys were the team leaders as freshmen.
