Say cheese: Spring Arbor signs Pinconning star Spring Arbor has added a third member to its recruiting class, 6-foot-5 Willie Pickvet of Pinconning.
Pickvet has played the 1-through-4 positions for 15-5 Pinconning this season, averaging 17.3 points and 10.1 rebounds per game.
"Willie is a young man with a huge upside," Spring Arbor coach Ryan Cottingham said. "His length and versatility will allow him to make an inpact in a variety of different ways. He's good in both the open court and half court."
Spring Arbor had already signed Dirail Flenorl from Kalamazoo Valley Community College and DJ Baisden from Jackson Christian.

In fairness SAU has been able to focus on recruiting since January...when they beat us, that was their national title...

Isn't it easier though to recruit into a great program that is losing several seniors (4...am I correct)? I feel like that is a prime recruiting tool..."You have a chance to play for a National Championship contending team and a great program and you could step in right away if you prove yourself"
Spring Arbor would have to say "Well we won the NCCAA the last 2 years. We have a lot of guys back. Maybe we can make a run at the top half of the MCC. Wanna try to help our program?" haha
I know this isn't how it goes...but you get the jist of it. I think HU should be able to recruit pretty easily...specially after holding such a great amount of talent in the northeast portion of the state.

I think you are right, GoIrish. I know one of our current freshmen went down to Branson last year with his dad for part of the tourney. The fact that HU has made a habit of being in the national tourney has to be a good recruiting tool. I heard that the younger players didn't even sleep Sunday night due to their excitement about the trip.

I heard that the younger players didn't even sleep Sunday night due to their excitement about the trip. This is true .... i stayed up with them until they left. the freshman were basically pacing. haha calling the other guys on the team to make sure they had everything they would need. I really hate the fact that I am going to semi-agree with GoIrish ... but I think your totally right. I think with the years and tradition that is in place at HU, we really shouldn't have much of a problem bringing talent in. And I think you are absolutely correct about having 4 seniors leaving, 3 of which were starters, this is something would widen the eyes of most of the guys who are considering coming to HU. I mean, no one thinks "wow i want to go (fill in the school) and just sit for 3 years play", so having the chance to play early has to help out some. And huntington fan, your right as well. Our past few years are nothing to ignore if you are an up in coming high school basketball player throught out northern indiana. I really like this part of the season ... hearing about who is going where and all that. I think there will be some pretty exciting names dropped in under the Huntington catagory.

I thought Christmas was the most wonderful time of the year! Wrong! March (the first few days of April occasionally can be counted as March) is the most wonderful time of the year.

It's interesting to know that Hubertz of IWU was considering schools such as Cincinnati, Ball State, Loyola (Chicago) and Vanderbilt before choosing Indiana Wesleyan.
He was a Junior Indiana All-Star and the thought is he has a chance to BE an Indiana All-Star this his senior season. Sawyer-Davis collected this honor last season and actually started and led the team in scoring and rebounding in their annual exhibition series with Kentucky...

Hubertz won't be an Indiana All-Star now that he's announced for an NAIA school. As wrong as it is, that's the way it works. That's why guys like Sheckler and Davis announced late.

Wow, you learn something new everyday. It makes sense that they don't want Indiana All-Stars to look poorly as a system. Remembering back to last year, Sawyer-Davis's name along with the others did look odd with Ohio State, Bradley, Purdue, etc. plastered all over the other selectees. It made IWU look great but I can see what you are saying from the selection committee's standpoint...

I know some HS football players who played the All-Star system a bit regarding the timing of their college commitments. Hubertz will be a player I'll take a particular interest in.
