Hawaii coming back and beating Washington hurts, but it's still a big possibility that the Rose Bowl will hold to its Pac 10/Big Ten lore with a USC-Illinois matchup. Rose Bowl invites don't come along often so I'm so excited if the Illini get to go!!!

It will be interesting to see what happens. If the Juice is not on, it could be a long day for the Illini.

It's going to be a long day for the Illini regardless......it will be very similar to their "Big Bowl" game a few years ago when they snuck in for the B10 Championship.

Well the Illini have come up big in big games this year. They beat #21 Penn State and #5 Wisconsin at home and then beat #1 Ohio State on the road. No matter what this was great year, but I have a feeling that J Leman, Rashard Mendenhall & Co. are not done yet.

The national championship game? Hopefully you're just trying to be a punk and you realize that this has been the nickname for the Rose Bowl for a while now thanks to Keith Jackson. Considering the National Championship Game has been around for 2 years and the Rose Bowl has been running consecutively since 1916... I think it's an appropriate name. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rose_Bowl_%28game%29

The Illini have picked up a bevy of commitments today with all of their Rose Bowl delirium. I have already mentioned the WR Fayson transferring from Florida, and alluded to Mercilus the DE/DT from Akron who is a HS senior but will be a January enrollee, but the Illini also landed Melvin Fellows a junior DE from Ohio that the Bucknuts (Ohio State's Rivals page) guys rank in the top 10 recruits in the junior class in Ohio. Apparently Notre Dame and Ohio State were both on him pretty hard but he wanted to be an Illini! That's a pretty nice pick up this early in the game especially from the Buckeyes backyard! The Illini continue to bring in the studs! illinois.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=1&pr_key=72808

Notre Dame didn't even offer the kid. I'm not saying we wouldn't have with time (who can say other than Corwin?) but it's not like he officially turned us down either when their wasn't an official offer.

Notre Dame didn't even offer the kid. I'm not saying we wouldn't have with time (who can say other than Corwin?) but it's not like he officially turned us down either when their wasn't an official offer. Both Ohio State and Notre Dame were contacting him weekly and both had him in for visits. That kind of attention isn't given to a junior if they don't think he is a prospect they are going to offer. If he truly turns out to be a top 10 player in Ohio then I don't care what offers he had, he's good. Here's an update after his visit to ND after they had him in for the Navy game which says Polian wanted him to send in his highlight tape and transcripts and then they would offer. Actually, if they brought him in and haven't offered him, then that's saying something.
But, Fellows looks to be a great player and, regardless of an offer or not, would make a great addition to any team.
Rumors around ND Nation is that Jamarkus McFarland is high on the radar and a 'likely' recruit from the 2009 class.

Turns out Fellows had verbal offers from Notre Dame and Michigan State and Ohio State was going to offer when they met face-to-face but Tressel wouldn't allow it after he committed to Illinois. That's noble.
