I disagree as well bleedsbcblue.
Ryne is a huge part of the team....to say otherwise is crazy talk.
Career Points: 977 (13.76/game) Career Rebounds: 231 (3.25/game) Career Assists: 370 (5.21/game) Career Steals: 85 (1.19/game) Career 3-Pointers Made: 110 (1.54/game)
Named MCC 2nd-Team All-Conference 2007-08.. Moved into a tie for 5th Place All-Time in Bethel history in 3-point percentage with .448 (56/125) in 2007-08 Finished the 2007-8 season ranked #17 in NAIA D2 in Assist per Game (4.944).. Finished the 2007-08 season ranked #20 in NAIA D2 in 3-Point Field Goal Percentage (.448).. Finished the 2006-07 season ranked #8 in NAIA D2 in Assists per Game (5.485).
Not only does he obviously put the ball in the hoop.....or the hands of the person that does put the ball in the hoop...he was this teams MVP in the NAIA tournament last year. He put this team on his back when others struggled and willed them into the Final 8.
I think this would be a huge blow. I haven't seen Benford play, but judging by his numbers I'm willing to guess he could be a big time option for the Pilots. I think Bethel - Ryno = IWU Favorites to win the MCC.

People sure jump to conclusions fast! A broken nose will not keep Rynn off the court. An ankle he can recover. As to a knee issue, we will need to see what the prognosis really is. At this point everything is speculation. Rynn is a tough kid and any one lost on this team (like other teams) would be felt. More should come out in the next few days.

Good post oldschool.
I think the conclusions are from an obvious thirst to talk about Basketball.....we are all pretty amped for the season to start.

Who is this Benford kid, and how does his presence "chalk" up a National Championship for Bethel?

Tony Benford is a transfer from Tri-State. His bio can be seen by this link: www.bethelhoops.com/roster/25/I disagree that it chalks up a championship for Bethel if Benford plays. That's too bold of a statement to make.

I'm with the others on this one, saying a potential red-shirt player is the key to a National Championship is a little off the wall if you ask me. While I agree that Ryne Lightfoot has his weaknesses (doesn't everyone?), I still think he is the best option for Bethel at the guard position, whichever you choose to talk about. The big talk coming into last season was whether or not he should be moved away from the point guard spot and moved into a more scoring position at the two guard; well I think he proved during the course of last year that he can handle the "distributor" role quite well and became one of the best all-around guards in the conference. As far as flopping is concerned, that's part of the game. Those that don't take it hard to the rim and shy away from contact arn't doing their job in my opinion. You take a look at any of the upper-level guards in the MCC, or any league for that matter and you can see that they know how to draw a foul and put points up on the board for their team. Look at IWU's Murrell, Goshen's McCollum, or USF's Steinau from last season, all of them did what Lightfoot does. Although I will agree that Lightfoot does it with a little more flair, or drama sometimes.

According to Dr. Mitros....Ryne doesn't have a broken ankle.
This is good news.

I had a chance to see that curly mohawk tonight.....WOW! Do you think there's a chance some official, perhaps in Illinois, will charge him with a technical for it?

I'd say the odds are 'strong' to 'quite strong'

According to Dr. Mitros....Ryne doesn't have a broken ankle. This is good news. he's said it still hurts really bad though but added that his nose will be fine and i don't see that keeping him out of practice as long as he wears one of those masks.. its just a matter of getting his ankle feeling better

He should just tough it out like Steve Nash, and just bandage it up.

Was Wes Laidig called for a block, or was Ryne called for charging?
I thought the talk about moving Ryne to shooting guard was because of Caleb coming in. Did that not develop the way they thought it would?
