Caleb ended up making great strides the last month of the season, playing a significant role in the MCC tournament and the NAIA tournament.
Ryne continued to play most of the minutes at point...but with a three guard rotation there were plenty of minutes for everyone.

Alright....the news has gotten worse in just a few short hours.
From Robbie:
"Dr Mitros is 90% sure that Ryne broke his ankle."

How long would he be out if he did indeed break his ankle? Till January?

There are degrees of severity with broken ankles, right? But still, this is not good. I hate to see this stuff. I still wonder how HU would have done if Lochmuller had been able to keep playing that year he had to quit because of concussions. I know injuries are a part of the game, but it's just awfully hard on the injured person and his teammates. All that work preparing for a season with loads of promise, and now? Nuts.

Well......having Ryne away for any extended amount of time could have any number of consequences.
1. Benford loses red-shirt and helps out right away to fill in for Rynes absence. 2. Benford remains red-shirted....Coach Lightfoot decides to ride Caleb and Kory at the guard spots. This would mean relying on future starting PG Stephen Ward off the bench for 10-15 minutes a game. 3. Ryne red-shirts......Benford loses red-shirt......and I cross my fingers!

Sometimes, a broken ankle is better then a grade 3 sprain. Obviously, you don't want to have to deal with any breaks, but for recovery time, a slight break is better off then an extremely bad sprain. I really hope all works out in due time. The Pilots were really sitting up nicely for a run in Branson this year.

He is walking around on it without much of a limp. Likely scenarios:
it's broken, he rehabs, he misses a some games it's not broken, he rehabs, he misses fewer games

Ryne was told by Dr. Simons (team physician) and his staff and they were certain that he has suffered a hair-line fracture in his foot. He will undergo an MRI next Tuesday that will either reconfirm the break...or show that it's not as serious as they saw from the x-ray. The time-frame given was 4-8 weeks. The good news in all of this was that the break was not displaced, meaning no surgery. We'll see how everything plays out after the MRI next Tuesday.

One benefit of the injury is that Ryne won't have to look at that crazy Mohawk at practice. It is quite a distraction. Perhaps it even contributed to the Ladig-Lightfoot collision. Can anyone confirm?

and to Bethel with Edison and one of our forwards (can't think of his name) in the year that they won it anyway except that the refs gave it to cornerstone (before we get that one going again, let me give it a #)

Michael Edison tore his ACL in '99 at a home game against Saint Francis, but still somehow played at the NAIA tournament. (a remarkable performance, but still not the Edison we see diving with TWO good knees). That was a key difference in that tournament.
The player you are thinking of Cowboy is Barak Coolman, he was a junior on the 1999 NAIA Runner-Up team and graduated with Brand in 2000. He is now the head coach at Northrop HS in Fort Wayne
