It's between McCullom and Coverstone. We'll find out how they define "Player of the Year" this year. I don't think you can really argue against either guy. Both have had excellent seasons. Not taking anything away from Lightfoot or Sawyer-Davis, they've represented very well.

I am not so sure Lightfoot is out of it. He is averaging nearly 20 PPG in conference games while leading the conference in assists. He also played an unbelievable stretch of basketball after the tough losses against quality competition to weather the storm until Brown came back. It may take IWU losing and Bethel beating USF, but I think there is a good argument to be made in his favor if that happens.

I would agree. Lightfoot is still in it, but it would take Bethel winning and IWU losing, putting Bethel at #1 in the conference tournament for that to happen.

If the world was all it could be, Ryne would get the vote of the HU coach.

he won't get votes just because his name is Lightfoot--there, I said it

I disagree, but it doesn't matter what either of us think...
There very well will likely be others that may be glad the numbers don't really back him and will be glad to write another name on the ballot...even to the chagrin of the bethel faithful...

his name will be on every ballot, but like WW, it will depend on where on the ballot they list him

I like it Bowen, and agree with you pretty much on everything. After seeing the top 4 players play in conference, I would still vote McCollum first, and then its a toss up between Lightfoot and Coverstone. If Lightfoot is on he is dangerous, but Coverstone gets lots of put back points and uses his height very well and there is no match for him in the post.
Watching Coons play the last two home games (Goshen and IWU) he has proven to me that he is one of the better players every time he steps on the court, I hope he continues to grow as a player. His defense has gotten much better this year, and he is turning into quite an impressive player. Howerver, Brock Woodward has shown signs of brilliance as well, especially recently, as has Peller and Kasper, this freshman class is just overall great for Taylor.
As far as coach of the year, it's hard to argue that, except that I think Tonegal has a shot at winning it as well, but the same argumenet could be used to give it to Lightfoot as to him. I think SAU finally getting into the top 3 is big for them, especially since it's seemed like they've had the talent in the past but just not been able to capitalize on it, and now they are, and I'm glad for them.
For the Newcomer team, the only problem I see is what about Butler? or was he not new this year?

I think Cottingham as well will win the COY although I really think Tonagel deserves it. I never saw IWU winning the MCC at the beginning of the season, a year after graduating Murrell, Moon and Adler. Quite an excellent coching job by him.

he's new but did not make as big of an impact as a lot of people thought he would.. also, kinda disappeared the second half of conference season.

Ok, wasn't sure about him. Darth, the same could be said though for Lightfoot, losing Walker and Lantz (and one more I think right?).
