Would Justin be the first guy who played in the MCC to make it to the majors? It sounds like, at worst, he should be a September call-up when rosters expand. He's definitely on the fast track.

This was passed along to me by Mark Gardner (Bethel JV Coach and avid Masterson fan). I don't have the link (I'll try to get it):
"I heard a Big League scout say that the how most prospects were rated 3-6. He was asked if he saw any 7’s last year. He said there was one: Boston’s Justin Masterson. The scout said he was at a game in 2007, and watched Masterson’s pitch drop close to a foot. He thought for sure he had thrown a palm ball, until he looked at the radar gun. It registered 92. He said he had never seen a sinker with that much movement thrown that hard.
I went to New Britain last week to see Masterson. The temperature was 41 degrees after the third inning. I brought two dozen hand warmers with me and gave them all to Portland’s left fielder Zach Daeges before the game. He thanked me, and every player in the field kept one of my warmers in their back pocket. I told him I would supply the team for Opening Night, but they need to get their own for the rest of the year. Watching Masterson pitch was like watching a young Dick Radatz (if you don’t know about the former late Red Sox reliever known as The Monster, check out his stats): his motion was smooth and a little side saddle. He reached 91 on the radar gun, and gave up three hits in his four innings of work without walking anyone. Two of the hits were in the infield, and one of those should have been an error on the shortstop, who bobbled a ground ball and then threw it in the dirt. The only real hit he gave up was a two out double in the left center gap in his last inning, the result of leaving a pitch too high up in the zone.
Masterson looked confident and intimidating on the mound. I predict he’ll be the cream of the crop if one had to choose between him and fellow Red Sox Clay Buchholz, Jon Lester and Michael Bowden.
Masterson reminds me of another pitcher I saw pitch in New Britain long ago, back in 1983. That pitcher’s name was Roger Clemens. At that time I thought Clemens was the best pitcher I had ever seen. But I’ve seen someone better now, and that’s Justin Masterson."

My buddy is a HUGE Red Sox fan, and he is extremly excited about Masterson. I mentioned his name to him on Sunday, and his face lit up.

We are considering giving him a special red jersey so that he does not get cut down with a career-ending injury by the Machete Defense.
