call it anything you want - the scoreboard says it all -- Yeah, and the scoreboard said it all in 99 as well. Actually, I think that was a sham call on that 3 by WP at the end of regulation. After all, officials aren't supposed to decide the game in the finals seconds, right? I mean, everyone in the building thought the 3 pointer was good, except for one guy who said it wasn't, right? a sham call? do you know ANY basketball rules? WOW! did you see or hear it?

How did we open it up in overtime? I left my car radio and came in the house and tried to get the stats board, then went out and we were up by 10.

It was simple......
William got the ball at the free throw line.
Tyler got great position down on the block
William made great entry passes.
and they did that four possessions in a row.

A few words from Branson:
1. Tyler Brown is having dental work done for a broken tooth. 2. Bethel picked up a possible recruiting prospect while in town....more on that later. 3. Grace watched the entire game and were cheering for Bethel the entire time. Bethel will be attending Graces game and doing the same. Very classy by both teams.

I wish that I didn't have to go to the garage to listen. The webcast is way to slow. I don't like to see the score come up on Dakstats before I hear it on the internet.

Those of you watching or listening on your computer were lucky. I listened to the last 10 minutes holding on to my antennae on my Corolla. I usually listen to XM, because my radio is messed up. It is a nice day, but my hand was a little chilly. It was staticky at best, but sometimes I got a clear signal. I found myself speeding to the next clear spot every time it got fuzzy.
Tomorrow will be a long day waiting for Friday morning. I may have to show my 6th graders a movie, so I can follow along.

If I were a coach of a NAIA DII team not in the tournament, I'd (1) buy a subscription to the webcast and require my returning players to watch 3-4 games. I'd probably set it up as a mandatory team meeting. I'd certainly want them to see the level of play it takes to win.
or (2) take one or two of my "need to step up next year" players to see the tournament. I'd want them to catch how important on-the-floor leadership is at the tournament.
Do you suppose any of the MCC coaches are doing either of these things?

Official Release from the NAIA
Bethel Avoids Upset; Defeats Warner Pacific in OT, 86-73
Pilots Outscore WPU 16-3 in Overtime Period
March 12, 2008
In the first overtime game of the tournament, ninth seeded Bethel (Ind.) defeated Warner Pacific (Ore.), 86-73, in the first round of the 17th annual NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Championship. The 2008 event is being held at the Keeter Gymnasium on the campus of College of the Ozarks (Mo.).
It was Warner Pacific that took control early, jumping out to a 21-11 lead. Bethel outscored the Knights 10-2 over a three minute stretch to pull within two, 23-21. Warner Pacific led by three, 37-34, at intermission.
The lead switched hands several times in the second half as neither team was able to pull away. With the score tied at 57, Warner Pacific outscored Bethel 9-2 to take a seven point lead with three minutes to play. The Pilots, however, battled back and tied the score at 70 on a pair of free throws by Ryne Lightfoot with 11 seconds left. On the ensuing possession, Warner Pacific forward Jeremy Reedal nailed a three pointer from the top of the key as time expired; however, it was waived off after the ball hit the top support.
In the overtime period, the Knights grabbed the lead, 73-72, but Bethel came back to score the final 14 points of the game to earn the win.
Bethel, the Mid-Central conference regular season and postseason champions, shot 46% for the game and was led by sophomore forward Tyler Brown with 28 points. William Walker recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. He also dished out a game-high seven assists.
Warner Pacific was led by senior guard Scott O'Gallagher who closes out his brilliant career with 29 points. Jalonta Martin added 15 points and eight rebounds for the Knights. WPU was making their third consecutive trip to the national tournament and ends their season with a 22-11 record. Bethel, who improves to 28-6 overall, will now face unseeded Ottawa (Kan.) on Friday morning at 8:30 a.m. in the second round. Ottawa recorded the tournament's first upset in the first game of the day, 70-65. The 32-team, single elimination tournament concludes Tuesday, March 13.
