I like the chances of Alex Kock becoming an assistant coach there now with his connection to Bradburn. I've heard Alex really wants to get into coaching and would love to get plugged in at HNHS.

Doesn't he have an education degree? I'm sure HNHS has a PE opening he could fill.

Yes he does. In fact, he would have had a job at HNHS if he hadn't pursued that other playing opportunity.

With both Girls and boys basketball coaches as well as the AD vacating their positions, the basketball programs are a mess and will likely only get worse based on the current school board. I'm not sure why anyone would want to "get plugged in at HNHS" other than teachers there get paid relatively well for the area.

What does the school board have to do with the basketball programs being a mess and getting worse? HN gets a good leader in there (both boys and girls)and it can get turned around to winning seasons soon. Bottomline is that HN needs a motivator to get kids hungry to play again. Coulod Bradburn be that guy? We will see.

What? Have you not lived in Huntington?
Its almost tradition, in Huntington, to have overly aggressively parents complaining to coaches about how they run the team, now you have parents complaining to school board member, and school board members acting on those complaint and trying to run the athletic department. Look no further than former girls coach John Lippe, or former girls coach Burton, or the long, long list of former boys coaches prior to the last one. And now the AD has left the community he grewup in after getting a new facility just a few years ago.
And who will be the next AD? Likely an ex-athletic trainer who was made Asst. AD because he couldn't be an athletic trainer anymore because he wasn't certified. He's a nice guy and all by hardly aggressive or energetic enough to handle an aggressive school board or aggressive parents.

The sooner parents realize that their 5'8 unathletic kid won't be going to Duke or the NBA, the better off all coaching staffs in the state of Indiana will be.

or the long, long list of former boys coaches prior to the last one. Is the list really that long in recent history? I grew up going to HNHS basketball games and the only coaches I can remember are Creighton Burns, Jack Gabor and Eric Foister. How many others have there been in the last 20 years?

I have lived in Hgtn almost my entire life. I agree the school board should have nothing to do with athletics and dealing with parents unless it is something major. Thats why I stated that we need good leaders in those positions. As far as the Asst. AD is concerned, I can't comment as to how well he would or would not do. He hasn't had that opportunity. I know I have always had a good working relationship with him. I am curious as to why you think he will get that position though.
MR is right, there have only been 3 boys coaches here the last 19 years(Burns came in 89) and I am not sure what exactly you are getting at.
I do agree that whoever they hire as AD, needs to have the school board butt out of his/her department and let he/she run it.

Alex Kock will be a great head boys basketball coach someday soon I think.
The teaching rule that you gotta teach... I understand it makes sense to have a guy familiar with the kids' total school experience and stuff, but a guy like Alex Kock is an amazing person and coach and should be given a head job.
I think it should be based solely on ability and not on whether they teach or don't teach.
Alex Kock is THE MAN!
Hire him!
