The Spring Arbor web site has their 2008-2009 men's basketball schedule posted. The weekend of November 14-15 is the "WHAC/MCC Challenge" - with SAU hosting, and CU and Aquinas also playing. I have heard that the fourth team in that challenge is Indiana Wesleyan. Can any of you Wildcat fans out there confirm this, either way? I like the WHAC/MCC challenge format - I would like to see this cycle through both conferences with similar challenges *cough* CU vs. Bethel *cough* Any thoughts out there? I really do want to enjoy the summer, but I can't wait for the 08-09 basketball season to begin! EDIT: The WHAC/MCC challenge is actually at Cornerstone (the SAU web site indicates it as being in Grand Rapids, where CU is) - I just didn't read the schedule carefully. This is a huge opportunity for CU to make some noise - i.e., a win over SAU would avenge something like the last 3 or 4 times we have played them - including last year in the finals of their own tournament. Also, if CU could beat IWU, that would show how good this CU team could be, especially with the addition of Possehl, Yoder, and perhaps one more recruit (Please!!! You know who you are, young fella'!). www.arbor.edu/EXT_AthleticsDetail.aspx?id=16762&linkidentifier=id&itemid=16762

This might not be the year to play Bethel. I'd wait a year or two if I were CU.

It's a great idea... but it's gotta be like the ACC/BIG 10 challenge. Include all teams yo!

I would like to see it based on the previous year's final standings - i.e., this year AQ vs. Bethel, etc. But if some conference teams took turns hosting 4 teams each year (i.e., SAU has Spring Arbor, IWU, CU, AQ), etc., it would still provide some great basketball at a few great venues. Perhaps there could be a traveling trophy presented each year to the winning conference.

Doesn't the conference have a new commissioner? Does the WHAC also have one? Maybe they can meet and discuss it.

It would be great to get all the teams in a tourney--play it at a neutral site (or Bethel). I would go watch all day and night for a weekend.

Okay - we have a new nominee for "Most Off the Wall Comment in a Post" "...at a neutral site (or Bethel)." Could there be two more opposite concepts? I love ya', Cowboy - just havin' a little fun!

I love the concept of an MCC/WHAC challenge. I can see that being a huge hit and attracting some great crowds if it's done properly. It would be great to see coaches from both conferences be in favor of it. I know one coach off the top of my head that would be ALL for it.

Want a neutral site (off-campus), but one still close enough to MCC/WHAC territory to draw fans. How about North Side gym in Elkhart? It's closer to Bethel and Goshen, maybe Grace than any other schools, but it holds nearly 8,000 and is a great venue for basketball.
Also, it's close to I-80, so it would be easily accessible for teams from further away.

I like the way you guys are talking here! Robbie, from your mouth to Dad's ear! Or at least to the ears of the powers that be in the WHAC and MCC to bring it about. I think it would be a great thing, and would potentially create some new intra regional rivalries.

IWU is the fourth team participating in this challenge As I edited my first post above, this WHAC/MCC Challenge is being held at Mol Arena in the Bernice Hansen Athletic Center on the campus of Cornerstone University. The schedule is as follows: Friday: Spring Arbor vs. Aquinas; IWU vs. Cornerstone Saturday: IWU vs. Aquinas; Spring Arbor vs. CU This should be a great opportunity for both CU and AQ to show what kind of team they each have, as these promise to be very tough tests - especially IWU. You MCC guys, if your team is not playing on one or both of those days, come on up to CU to see some great basketball games. The plan is to have all games on the web as well. Here is the link where you can follow CU's games: www.cornerstone.edu/athletics/webcasts/

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is not a tournament that is put on or sanctioned by or in any other way endorsed by the WHAC or the MCC. It's pretty much just Cornerstone bringing in two MCC teams and another WHAC team for their four-team home tournament and calling it the WHAC/MCC Challenge, right? Any other school could do the same thing.

It has typically involved CU and Madonna from the WHAC, and Bethel and IWU from the MCC, though I think St. Francis has been involved as well. I would still like to see a WHAC/MCC Challenge that is sanctioned by both conferences, and that includes every team - like what the Big 10 and ACC do in NCAA D1.
