Read today that it was decided that Coach Todd Grace's contract wouldn't be renewed at Marion HS, after being there only 2 years. From what I've read, this isn't a complete surprise. Hopefully Marion can get a good replacement to help build up once was a legendary program.

MariOn Look for James Blackmon on this one. It does two things for Marion...it brings back one of their all time greatest players (who's accomplished in coaching as well) and brings his son with him that is one of the Top 15 kids in the country in his class. It helps fill the gym.

I'll change it... I think I'm too used to this message board... and distinguishing IWU from Marian U, that it confuses me.
That'd be awesome if they were able to bring Blackmon in. He could help that team push for a state title again I think, and help Marion get the hype back it once had in basketball, at least to an extent.

I would assume Blackmon is the automatic choice on this one..although he wasn't too interested 2 years ago, but he still had a season left with DeShaun.

Makes the rumors from a few months ago about Trey Lyles transferring to play with James Blackmon JR even more interesting.

The Marion Superintendent has confirmed that Blackmon has applied for the job. Rumors were saying he was only awaiting school board approval but he says that is not true, only that he will get due consideration for the position as would anyone else. I have to believe as many of you stated above that unless someone great swoops in that Blackmon is nearly a shoo-in for this post. Two questions I would have. 1) Is he a short-term hire in hoping that his son can transfer with him and make Marion an instant contender that would potentially lead him to a bigger job? 2) Which Blackmon is the better get?

At the high school level.......how many jobs are bigger than Marion?

Good point.
Maybe some Indy High School jobs or moving up the coaching ladder. I'm not sure what Blackmon's aspirations include.
It would appear though that he applied swiftly and really wants this job. The Marion community might have an outcry if they didn't hire him. He is a legend there that's for sure. Nothing short of Bill Green or Jack Colescott finding the fountain of youth and returning to coaching would satisfy most Giant fans on this hire other than Blackmon.

I don't know if the same will hold true since, he would be in a different community but he has been able to draw kids to his program over the past several years starting from Junior High...thats a huge plus as well

Did James B. get this job? Not a word has been written recently. What did the schoolboard decide?

Did James B. get this job? Not a word has been written recently. What did the schoolboard decide? earlier written sources indicated applications would be taken through May 6 and the new coach could be named at a school board meeting May 11.

I think James Blackmon deserves the job for sure! He's done a great job at Luers, and he's one of Marion's all-time greats, and so to not hire him would be a mistake!

Yeah, he got the job at last night's board meeting in Marion. It was on the Fort Wayne TV stations this evening. I'm too lazy to provide a link.
