What a crazy recruiting season.
Since the coaching change...IU fans have seen the likes of Penn State, Michigan, and Iowa come after it's recruits.
Penn State offered Nick Stoner....and was denied.
Iowa offered Jake Reed last week.......and was denied.
Unfortunately the Hoosiers lost who I thought was the best grab in Pirman to Nebraska, but otherwise Wilson is doing a heck of a job holding onto some very very important pieces.

Impressive stuff from ESPN on the draft status of Tandon Doss, not bad for a 2-Star recruit out of High School.
The NFL draft blog over at ESPN was just updated with a story about Doss saying that he is the most underrated prospect in the draft. Apparently he is moving way up draft boards.
"Some might have been surprised when Indiana WR Tandon Doss entered his name in the draft, and some might not have known who he was, but after an initial breakdown of the film Doss looks like the most underrated prospect in the entire draft.
Doss is a great route-runner and gets upfield as quickly as any wide receiver in this class, and he shows exceptional hands when going after the ball. He is not overly elusive in the open field but Doss runs hard and is tough.
We give him an early-second round grade at this point and Doss ranks as the No. 4 receiver on the board behind A.J. Green, Julio Jones and Jonathan Baldwin."

Sports Illustrated lists IU's hiring of Kevin Wilson as the best off-season move in NCAA Football this year: Indiana (Kevin Wilson, Oklahoma offensive coordinator): A Wilson represents the best of all worlds for the long-dormant Hoosiers. He brings the experience of having spent the past nine years working for a perennial BCS contender. He has Big Ten and Midwest familiarity from his time at Northwestern and Miami (Ohio). And he's an acclaimed offensive coordinator who will maximize Indiana's underrated skill talent. So much for 4* OL Chris Bryant visiting Indiana. He's going to Champaign this weekend to visit the Illini and says he has narrowed his list to Michigan, Arizona, Pitt, and Illinois. Illinois is really tight on scholarships and Bryant isn't the moble-type of O-lineman that Illinois is utilizing these days so I'm not sure he's the right fit for the Illini and I doubt he'd pick them anyway. I'd bet he's either going to Pitt or Michigan. If the coaching staff would've stayed at UM he'd be a Wolverine lock, but obviously that didn't happen and that is why Pitt and Indiana popped onto the radar since UM assistants landed there.

How's this for a recruiting coup?
Two months ago a WR named Cody Latimor committed to the Hoosiers. He's from Dayton, OH....at the time he was a 3-Star guy with some good interest, but not many offers.
Rivals has now upgraded him to the best WR in the state of Ohio.......beating out Devin Smith (OSU), AJ Jordon (WISC), Roger Williamson (MSU), Justin Olack (Pitt), Etc. Ohio has a very deep group of WR's this year.

Not sure what got him that ranking. Jefferson is in my alma mater's league, which is a very weak one. In fact, my alma mater beat Jefferson by 15 and Latimer had 5 catches for 65 yards. That definitely isn't bad, but when I played, the team was more focused (and better at) stopping the run as opposed to the pass (and my defensive coordinator is now the head coach, so I'm sure they still have the same focus). They were the only team to keep him out of paydirt completely (and they did it last year). Latimer didn't even play in their biggest offensive output this season. Only half his games he had over 65 yards and never had more than 2 receiving TD's in a very weak league. Last year he was held scoreless 4 times and had 9 TD's in 10 games. I've never seen this guy play, but being very familiar with the teams on his schedule, I'm not too impressed. I'm not sad or surprised that OSU didn't offer him. I do know that Jefferson was his third HS by his sophomore year. He also enjoys basketball more than football and would play that in college if he was as talented as he is in football. He also won state last year in basketball playing alongside MSU's Adreine Payne.
I just find it hard to believe that a kid whose best offer outside of IU was UConn is better than kids that were being recruited by the OSU's, Wisky's, UM's, Nebraska's, MSU's. I know coaches miss out on players, but that's a lot of coaches to miss a kid. Don't expect this kid to be Tandon Doss.
Next year will be a huge year for WR's in Ohio with players like Tres Barksdale, Jeremy Graves, Monty Madaris, Corey Smith and Cameron Wilson. They have the likes of OSU, ND, USC, UM, MSU, Penn St, Tenn, FSU, Wisc, LSU, Illinois, and Nebraska after them.

He'll come to IU and redshirt because the Hoosiers are loaded at WR. Considering James Hardy was a ** recruit....Tandon Doss was a ** recruit....DeMarlo Belcher was a ** recruit.........I don't think you should judge your rankings based on what coaches missed.

Not sure about belcher, because frankly I don't care, but I know hardy and doss were both recruited by BCS schools. Just dont e surprised when he isn't the best WR out of Ohio.

Latimor won't need to be the best WR out there.......IU has stacked SO/FR classes of wide receivers.

Indiana lost one of their best commits today in 4* DB Raymon Taylor of Detroit. He's going to Michigan after being impressed that head coach Brady Hoke came in for his in-home visit. Sucks for IU.

Indiana lost one of their best commits today in 4* DB Raymon Taylor of Detroit. He's going to Michigan after being impressed that head coach Brady Hoke came in for his in-home visit. Sucks for IU. It seems like the recruiting services don't know what to do with Taylor. He's a 4-star #14 athlete on Rivals.com and a 3-star #93 athlete on ESPN. Scout has him as a 3-star #49 CB. This makes 5 out of the 13 commits that UM has as defensive backs. It's a huge position of need for them. The guy from MGOblog thinks that Hoke still hasn't pulled in a name that the biggest competition wasn't a MAC school or lowly B10 school. I think recruiting prowess is what everyone fears about Hoke but I'm not sure he has enough time (thanks to Dave Brandon) to do anything with this class. He's in a tough position.

I hope Kevin Wilson attacks Raymon Taylor in a few months with a one two punch of Belcher and Wilson.

To go along with the rise of Tandon Doss stock over the last month....this just in from Sports Illustrated:
"James Brewer/T/Indiana: Brewer pulled off a dominant performance on the first day of Senior Bowl practice and quickly established himself as the best blocker at the event. He looked big and powerful during morning weigh-ins then played that way in the afternoon. Brewer moves well on his feet and also annihilates opponents once he got his hands on them. He was never beat today and drew praise from coaches on a number of occasions."

Kevin Wilson picked up his first commitment as IU Coach this week.
3-Star CB Michael Hunter from Louisiana. His other offers were from Baylor, Duke, McNeese State, Louisiana-Monroe, and SE Lousiana.
