Wow. This guy has Mendenhall ahead of McFadden. Mendenhall certainly is picking up a lot of steam and should be the 2nd RB taken in the draft. I'm excited about his pro potential.

FYI, Ohio State has picked up the intensity of their pursuit of Illinois commit Melvin Fellows. Fellows is rated by Ohio State board "Bucknuts" as the #1 player in the state of Ohio for 2009.

Here's ESPN's outlook for the 2008 Big Ten football season: sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3255401 I must say the most humorous part of the article is this: 11. Minnesota How the Gophers can win the league title: They can't.

illinois.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=777250"If Zook continues to recruit well – and he doesn't appear to be slowing down – then look for the Illini to become a consistent power in the Big Ten, which by definition would make it a national power." - Olin Buchanan Senior College Football writer for Rivals.com

Good article on my boy Mendenhall today: sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/don_banks/02/26/mendenhall/index.htmlOne longtime league personnel evaluator I know had an insightful comparison about the rise up the draft board that is projected for Illinois running back Rashard Mendenhall this spring. "He reminds me so much of Amobi Okoye last year,'' said the personnel man. "At the beginning of the process, we didn't really know much about either one of them, other than they were really young. [Okoye was 19 at last year's combine, Mendenhall is 20.] Then you watch some film, and you go from thinking of them as a first-day pick to a first-round pick. Then you get to the combine, get a chance to talk to them, and now it's first half of the first round. Then they have great workouts, and you realize they're top 10 picks.

Thompson was selected by the Phoenix Cardinals in the second round of the 1990 NFL Draft. During his NFL career, which ended in 1992 with the Los Angeles Rams, he played in 37 games and scored six touchdowns.
I think Rashard will top that.

Turns out Fellows had verbal offers from Notre Dame and Michigan State and Ohio State was going to offer when they met face-to-face but Tressel wouldn't allow it after he committed to Illinois. That's noble. HIRG, we're after Fellows... Notre Dame first learned about Melvin Fellows last season. The 6-foot-4, 245-pound defensive end from Garfield Heights, Ohio terrorized quarterbacks and quickly became a prime recruiting target for the Irish, even checking out a game in South Bend last season. Fellows is planning on taking an official visit to Notre Dame. But not long after Fellows picked up his first offer the athlete took himself off the market by committing to Illinois in December. Since then several schools, including Ohio State and Notre Dame, have extended offers. "Last week Notre Dame called my coach," Fellows said. "We had been in contact since the season and they were telling me all the Big Ten schools loved me but they only recruit the Midwest. (Notre Dame) said they recruit the best players in the nation and they have a scholarship for me." Fellows is excited about the Notre Dame offer. "It's always good to get offer from Notre Dame," he said. "They are a top of the line football program and they are top of the line academic school. I think they have good future. I already visited on an unofficial visit when they played Army. I liked it and want to go on an official there." Fellows said he remains committed to Illinois but plans to check out several other schools. With offers from Ohio State, Notre Dame, Michigan, Michigan State and several others, he has options. "I'm still solid," he said. "That's what I like about Illinois; they don't pressure me about anything. We already have a relationship so if I go visit another school they don't get mad." Fellows said he'll make his final decision next February. Until then, he'll continue to work hard for his senior season. "Everything is going real good," he said. "I'm just trying to stay focused and lift weights to get better and work on my game. We are working out; we have a good speed program. We do speed work and workout and on Wednesday we have study table. We do SAT prep stuff and have tutors. Our coach and staff likes to help us out. I'm glad that I'm at Garfield." Fellows carries a 3.0 grade point average.

I was actually very surprised to not see Wisconsin's PJ Hill not make the list. I think he will lead the Badgers to a fine season next year. They are probably Ohio State's stiffest competition for the Big Ten crown.
