I'm not saying he will be ignored and won't be in consideration. I just don't see coaches voting him ahead of Lightfoot and Coverstone. Scoring isn't everything. The NBA player that wins the scoring title hasn't won the MVP since the 2000-01 season. In fact, the MCC leading scorer hasn't won POY 4 of the last 5 years (and could be longer, but not familiar enough with the MCC in that time).

I still say the best player on the MCC champ should win it this year--but I'd vote McC third

Player of the Year vs. Most Valuable Player? Just based on the semantics of POY v. MVP - that would give McCullom a shot at the POY award. Victories are measured by team success, and McCullom doesn't have the supporting cast that Lightfoot & Coverstone enjoy. You can't concentrate your defense on shutting them down because they both have teammates that will hurt you. McCullom is dropping big numbers without such support, and with defenses geared to slow him down. Lightfoot & Coverstone would be neck & neck in an MVP race - arguably the most productive players on the best teams.

how do you measure MVP? how do you measure POY? they both can be defined however you want to. and how do you measure intangibles? does McC have the intangibles of Lightfoot or Coverstone? does a PG get the nod over a center? how do you compare? and does Coverstone have the advantage of a better team or does he make his team better? who's the best clutch player? it can go on and on

I anticipate a Co-POY this year.
I think Casey Coons has to be the runaway favorite for Newcomer of the Year, no?

What does the race look like after this latest batch of games? Is Sawyer-Davis back in the picture?

What does the race look like after this latest batch of games? Is Sawyer-Davis back in the picture? I say "no" because of his being a Junior, and for the fact that he disappeared for about 3 straight games.

Zach Coverstone in a losing effort against S.F. 23 pts., 12 boards, 7 blocks, 5 assists.

Is there going to be an article in the newspaper about how a 10 point performance against the worst team in conference takes Lightfoot out of the race?

OK, after watching McCollum last night, it's clear to anyone with any objectivity that he's easily the best player in the conference. He simply does things on both ends of the court that no one else in the conference can do. Coverstone, Lightfoot, S-D, etc., are all playing for second. Or should be.

Is there going to be an article in the newspaper about how a 10 point performance against the worst team in conference takes Lightfoot out of the race? For someone that does more for the disadvantaged than you do Rub, I would think you would love Ryne Lightfoot. Isn't that you're mission in life?

Interesting take on McCollum. USF went into their games against Goshen with the philosophy of let him get his points but shut everyone else down. 2 career games but 2 USF wins. You can't attack IWU, USF, or Bethel that way because they have great support players. I do think McCollum is the best player but can a guy from a fifth place team end up with the POY?

This is about basketball...Not sure you have a clue what I have or have not done to help out disadvantaged people...I can tell you that I was developing ministries and working with many orgs throughout college too...Should I get nominated for a basketball award for that?

I think Casey Coons has to be the runaway favorite for Newcomer of the Year, no? Or half of Taylor's team for that matter.
