Urbana Meyer has been tearing up the recruiting trails for his 2nd class (and 1st real class). The 2013 class includes:
5 star- Joey Bosa- 6'5/262 DE 5 star- Jalin Marshall - 6'1/190 WR/RB/QB 4 star- Cam Burrows - 6'2/195 CB 4 star- JT Barrett - 6'2/205 QB 4 star- Marcus Baugh - 6'4/230 TE 4 star- Eli Woodard - 6'1/180 CB 4 star- Evan Lisle - 6'6/275 OT 4 star- Ezekial Elliott - 6'0/195 RB 4 star- Alex Anzelone- 6'3/220 OLB 4 star- Billy Price - 6'4/265 DT 3 star- Jayme Thompson - 6'2/185 S 3 star- Tracy Sprinkle - 6'4/250 DE
This class is shaping up real nice, and paired with this year's incoming class will be very special.

2 things...
1. Does it bother you that Meyer seems to have a more national focus than making the state of Ohio a priority? Granted 6 of the current 12 commits are in-state, but usually in-state kids pop earlier.
2. What do you think of Michigan's impressive haul so far? 13 of their 17 commits are ranked in Rivals top 250 including 5 top 250 kids from Ohio and 8 overall out of the Buckeye State.

1. Not really. If you notice, majority of the best Ohio recruits will go to Ohio st. I love the national recruiting that Meyer has that Tress lacked.
2. Most of the Ohio recruits that committed to Michigan do/did not have committable offers, meaning the Buckeye staff wanted to see them perform before making offers. The recruits did not like this because Tress never functioned that way. Besides, don't be surprised wen Dymonte Thomas decommits from Michigan.

5 of those Ohio kids committed to Michigan are in the Rivals 250. That isn't the end all be all, but it does say a lot. If Meyer thinks he can fill up a class with guys from outside of Ohio in the top 250, more power to him.

If I counted correctly, 9 Of the 12 committed are in that 250 list and 4 are higher than the top Michigan recruit from Ohio (I think I used scout for giving the star ratings above, but not sure). Now, just like you, I don't think the rivals, scout, 247, and especially ESPN rankings mean everything, but they definitely give a starting point. And, it does seem to me that Meyer thinks he can do better, and I think he is proving it. He just has less scholarships to miss on. It is just unfortunate that all these "top B plan" guys are all going to Michigan. Why can't some go to penn st, Illinois, mich st, Cincinnati, Wisconsin, etc and spread them all out.

Yeah I was going to pounce on it too before I actually read the article. These things seem incredibly minor and insignificant. Every school reports dozens of these minor violations every year and O$U is no different. Nothing to get up in arms about if you ask me. Now if more and more of these things keep happening, the Buckeyes probation should be extended, but not for extremely minor things like this.

Since I am back in Ohio, I figured now would be a good time to resurrect this thread, so all of you can just hate on the Bucks more. The Buckeyes are clearly the class of the Big Ten this year, but that isn't saying much at all. I had the privilege of attending last nights thrashing of the Cornhuskers, and that was a great experience, almost as exciting as seeing the Buckeyes come from behind last year against Wisconsin. After seeing Tressel for so many years and Fickell for one, it was nice to see some differences last night. First, OSU had a 4th and 7, faked a punt and ran for 6 yards. Although we turned the ball over, it was nice to see the chance being taken. We also went for a 4th and 1 with 30 seconds left in the half which Braxton Miller promptly ran it in for a TD from about 30 yards away. Miller once again broke his own OSU QB rushing record with 186 yards. I'm not saying they will, but it is becoming more and more likely that they finish the season undefeated, which would be a great middle finger to the NCAA. I have always said that we would lose 1 or 2 games this year, and I still believe that, I just don't know against who. Meyer has still done a great job on the recruiting. Of course, he does have to be very picky due to the scholarship reductions. Here is the updated list:
5 star- Joey Bosa- 6'5/262 DE 5 star- Jalin Marshall - 6'1/190 WR/RB/QB 4 star- Cam Burrows - 6'2/195 CB 4 star- JT Barrett - 6'2/205 QB 4 star- Marcus Baugh - 6'4/230 TE 4 star- Eli Woodard - 6'1/180 CB 4 star- Evan Lisle - 6'6/275 OT 4 star- Ezekial Elliott - 6'0/195 RB 4 star- Billy Price - 6'4/265 DT 4 star - Michael Hill - 6'3/315 DT 4 star - Tyquan Lewis - 6'3/225 OLB/DE 3 star- Jayme Thompson - 6'2/185 S 3 star- Tracy Sprinkle - 6'4/250 DE 3 star - Tim Gardner - 6'5/340 OL 3 star - Taivon Jacobs - 5'11/165 WR 3 star - Darron Lee - 6'2/195 ATH 2 star - Johnny Townsend - 6'2/200 K
We also have quite a few still considering us pretty high on their lists, such as: 4 star - Robert Foster - 6'3/190 WR 4 star - Dorian Johnson - 6'6/285 OT 4 star - James Quick - 6'0/180 WR 4 star - Vonn Bell - 6'0/190 S 4 star - Mike Mitchell - 6'4/216 OLB 4 star - Marquez North - 6'3/210 WR 4 star - Tony Stevens - 6'4/184 WR 4 star - Shelton Gibson - 5'11/173 WR 4 star - Donovan Munger - 6'3/280 DT 4 star - James Hearns - 6'3/235 ILB (Florida Commit) 3 star - Christopher Worley - 6'3/190 OLB
With only about 5 available scholarships, obviously they all won't commit. In fact, they all don't even have committable offers.
However, after seeing my first Urban Meyer game in person, I am absolutely thrilled for the future!

like this quote from the article about the buckeyes violations:
"It's nothing that troubles me," Smith told The Associated Press on Friday. "It's normal operating business. It's nothing that troubles me. I've seen all the cases; we know all the cases. You look at them, and they're inadvertent mistakes."
especially the admission of this being "normal operating business" at Ohio State
Okay, now let's hear it.
