I was about to post this bit of info. It is not unexpected. There had been less than discrete hints that Carlwell was not going to be back next season for some time now.
1. I hope Brian is able to find a system that works for him and more importantly an environment that is best for him. He was always a jokester and a light-hearted guy. I hope he never loses that smile, but does grow up into a mature individual who is able to share his joy with the world around him. He's been through a lot in the past year, and I hope he is able to put it all behind him.
2. I think this reassures Tisdale that he's going to need to step up and be a big piece of next year's team. The same is true for Alexander, Davis, and to a lesser extent Semrau and Cole. The Illini will probably nab another JC forward for next year, or possibly another big for '09 that they have been looking at.

The Illini got throttled Wednesday night in an ugly game vs. Wisconsin, but once again Demetri McCamey shined down the stretch. He was splitting double teams, finding players with his excellent vision and getting them the ball (whether they scored or not ), the most impressive thing was that he was driving to the hoop with a determination that I hadn't seen outside of the Indiana game. You can tell when he's in the zone, he wants to take the ball and score and with his body type he has the strength to do it. I'm really excited about this player (obviously) and I'm glad that Bruce is really pushing him and not allowing him to fall into bad habits. Here's a good article describing what I'm talking about: www.herald-review.com/articles/2008/02/22/sports/illini/1030285.txt

2010 stud Illinois commit Jereme Richmond will have to find his third high school team in three years next year after reportedly having an argument with the Waukegan head coach and the two parted ways (there are conflicting reports about whether he quit or was kicked off). Jereme transferred to Waukegan after playing last year at a small private school with little competition. While the Waukegan coach did not use Richmond well at all (constantly making him play the post and not getting him the ball on offense), this still does not reflect well on Jereme. On top of being suspended for a fight with a teammate for the first 3 games of the season, he missed a game recently for a family event out of town (apparently his parents made him go but... ), now this happens. Richmond has a ton of talent, that much is clear, but these character issues are more than a little troubling. I hope he can find the right team for him and screw his head on straight both for his sake and for the sake of future Illini basketball. www.chicagohoops.com/articles1/jrichmond.html

The Illini won in Iowa City today 58-47! Other than Indiana, the team that I love to beat the most is Iowa and this feels good! The guys played hard today, but the difference was free throws. The Illini hit 16-19 today which has to be their best output of the season. Simply remarkable for a team that has lost so many games due to poor free throw shooting. It was also good to see freshman Mike Davis play well. He's really done well in practice as of late and today it translated to a game situation. I'm glad they got back on track and hopefully they show some spunk against Michigan State in their next game.

The Illini are looking at a 6'7 235 lb. JUCO from Texas named Dominique Keller. He's averaged 25 points and 10 rebounds a game this year for his school. He's visiting for tomorrow night's game vs. Michigan State and very well may commit. I would love to have another big guy in the fold for next year and the year after. I hope everything works out.

Hoopmasters.com has their rankings for prospects for 2010 up: Illini commit Jereme Richmond is ranked #5 nationally and fellow Illini commit Crandell Head is ranked #24. Not bad for a crappy recruiter like Weber BTW... Ohio State has 3 commits in the top 10. They should be good.

Matt Roth's Washington team got a big playoff win this week beating Peoria Central and Illinois commit D.J. Richardson, 73-57. Roth had 16 points in the game and Washington (24-3) moves on to the the Galesburg sectional title game played tonight. Richardson had 18 in the losing effort.
