Meanwhile the Rockies are having a nightmare season, just one of several wacky trends in MLB this year. Who would have predicted that, at this point in the season, the Pittsburgh Pirates would have a better record than the Padres, the Rockies, and the Tigers, or that Tampa Bay would be in first place in the AL East while the Yankees would be in last? I guess this is why they play the games.

HOW ABOUT THAT GAME TODAY!!!! I was in meetings all day so I didn't get a chance to watch it, but in the 6th inning when it was 9-1 and Lou basically conceded taking out Lee, Soto, and Ramirez I thought it was over, but still checked in 15 minutes later out of curiosity and low and behold Feller's boy Fukudome and Old Man River Edmonds go deep to make it 9-4 heading to the 7th. Still not exactly a close game. Then things get interesting. Blanco hits a two run bomb, Edmonds drives in 2 with a double and everybody's favorite utility man Mark DeRosa finishes the deal with a two run job to give the Cubbies the lead and a 5-game winning streak after Marmol and Woody close the door. Wow! I love this team! There is not a lick of quit in them.

Considering it's only May 31................I'm fine with that.
The Reds have a better rotation than the Cubs and in my opinion have an overall better lineup. Just wait until that road trip that the Cubs have to take. And they won't be playing Pittsburgh.

A better lineup? Come on now...
Cubs: Soriano Theriot Lee Ramirez Fukudome Soto DeRosa Edmonds (Pitcher)
Reds: Hairston Jr. Bruce Griffey Jr. Phillips Dunn Encarnacion Votto Bako or Ross (Pitcher)
The only spot on the field that the Reds have an advantage is CF. Jay Bruce is a real good looking young player, and Edmonds is past his prime. I'm not seeing a better lineup from the Reds.

Feller, the Cubs have one of, if not the best offense in the majors, plus better fielding than the Reds. How exactly do they have a better lineup?
Keep in mind that big league pitchers don't know much about Bruce. Once they start to figure him out, he'll cool off. Just like Fukudome has cooled off from his hot start.
And I'll take the Cubs pitching staff too. Zambrano is better than any Reds pitcher. Dempster has been great this year. Granted Lily has struggled, and Marquis too. Gallagher is young, but he's pitched well in his limited role.
I certainly wouldn't mind having Volquez or Cueto, but Cueto has cooled off since his hot start. And Arroyo and Harang aren't worth much anymore. And Josh Fogg, seriously?

Hmmm...
Cubs are sixth in baseball with a 3.61 ERA while Cincy is 23rd with a 4.46. Chicago has a .245 batting average against compared to the Reds' 269. Granted, that's all pitching, not just starting, but that's quite a difference there.
Hitting wise, the Cubs lead the Reds in batting. The Cubs have 64 more runs scored, 27 points higher in batting average, 24 more extra base hits, 93 more total bases, and 69 more points in OPS.
So to sum it up...The Reds have a better rotation than the Cubs and in my opinion have an overall better lineup :/

I'm not buying it guys........the Cubs started the season red hot and the Reds ahve just started picking it up in the last 20 games.
Give me the Reds..............by the way, who is Theriot? Who is Derosa?
I'm not sure how you take the Cubs rotation over the Reds. Zambrano is the obvious choice as best pitcher on both teams. Once Dempster starts being more like himself....you'll have a very average at best pitching staff.
By the way, Edinson Volquez is having a better year than Zambrano....if that means anything.

I will have to question your logic on the Reds picking it up in the last 20. They've won 13 out of their last 21 games. The Cubs have won 15 out of their last 21.
Who is Ross? Who is Encarnacion? Hairston Jr?
Zambrano and Volquez are actually having fairly comparable seasons. Volquez does have a lower ERA (and he's only allowed 7 less runs than Z, his ERA is being helped by a pourous Reds defense) and more strikeouts, but Zambrano has one less loss, more innings pitched, less walks, more quality starts, and a better strikeout to walk ratio.
I'd say it's a wash at best for Volquez.

Some stats to consider for the starting rotation.
Reds - 18-23 312 IP 1.42 WHIP 4.64 ERA
Cubs - 23-12 316 IP 1.34 WHIP 3.90 ERA
Who has the better starting rotation? The numbers don't lie

Feller's talking out of his rear again. There is no way that the Reds are even close to as good as the Cubs. I'd take Brandon Phillips at 2B and any of the Reds OF as my CF but other than that the Cubs are far and away better. Catcher: Soto > Bako/Ross (It's not even close) 1B: Lee > Votto 2B: DeRosa < Phillips SS: Theriot > Hariston Jr. 3B: Ramirez > Encarnacion (It's not even close) RF: Fukudome = Griffey (Griffey has more power, Fukudome better contact/fielding) CF: Johnson/Edmonds < Bruce LF: Soriano >/= Dunn (both atrocious fielders/streaky hitters w/ power) Bench: Cubs (Cedeno, Fontenot, Ward) > Reds ( ) Starters: Zambrano > Harang (Not even close) Lilly > Arroyo Dempster < Volquez Marquis < Cueto #5 = #5 (both are question marks) Bullpen: Howry > Any Reds RP Marmol > Any Reds RP Wood = Cordero And the only stat that matters: Cubs 35-21 > Reds 26-29 (It's not even close)
