Thank you Alfonso! The Pirates actually won the series, and stretched the Cubs' bullpen out so that the Dodgers can tee off tomorrow afternoon. And the umps missed ANOTHER home run call, only this time it favored the Bucs, so I'm OK with it. Rivas might have scored anyway on McLouth's groundout, though, so it might not have mattered.
I do have one question for Cubs' fans about that bullpen, though: why isn't Marmol the closer rather than Wood? Wood already has 4 blown saves. How many more will it take?

Wood has pitched pretty well this season as he has a 0.82 WHIP. He's only walked five and allowed one HR in 25 IP. He just finds some inopportune time to give up runs I guess.
Wood has some interesting stats...a 3.51 ERA for a closer is high with only a .82 WHIP. Plus, he's only allowed 21 baserunners in 25+ innings, but 10 of those have scored. Over 162 games, that percentage of runs scored to baserunners will level out better.

Woody just needs to stop hitting batters. He looked really sharp tonight, as did our good friend Aramis Ramirez who had the game-winning RBI on a two-out single in the 7th, but he's not worth the money right maxpower? Fukudome looked great as well. He made two phenomenal catches tonight. The first one was the flashy diving catch that will be splashed all over Webgems and Sportscenter's Top Plays, but it was the 2nd catch on Juan Pierre's liner to the gap that was more impressive to me. He covered so much ground and saved a run as there was already a runner on 1st and the hit was at least a double if he doesn't get there. I love hit bat, but it's his defense that makes me think Hendry was a genius for signing this guy over the winter.

Feller, I saw his debut and I hope you are right...my Fantasy team has struggled with hitting for power...so I am going after Bruce to correct that! Thankfully I have the top priority right now on waivers...and some idiot dropped him 3 days before his call up...

Jay Bruce had a very "Fukudome-like" debut, minus the game-tying HR in the bottom of the 9th.

He will hit circles around Fukedome......

Hahahaha... yes a 21 year-old will "hit circles" around a Japanese batting champ. Bruce is a very solid prospect and will be a stud for the Reds down the road, but to expect him to do what he did last night on a regular basis is a huge stretch when talking about a 21 year-old.

Jay Bruce is the best hitter in AAA....isn't that the same as Japanese ball? And for the record, Jay Bruce won in his debut and Fukudome lost, so it wasn't really the same.

Wow. You never cease to amaze me with your lunacy. Japanese ball is quite a bit better than AAA.

I dont' know, there are an awful lot of washed up MLB players making a lot of money over there. And their best players come to play in Major League Baseball.
I would expect you to know that...........
Fukudome is good........but he's also 31 years old.

Every year the MLB All-stars do a tour of Japan after the season is over and games like this one that ended in a 7-7 tie are prevalent where I doubt the same would be true against the AAA all-stars. sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2646905

Jay Bruce finally made an out in his seventh big league plate appearance. He lined hard to center. He walked in the six-run first for the Reds, becoming the first player since 1977 to reach base in his first six big league plate appearances. Bruce doubled in his third at-bat, walked in his fourth at-bat and grounded out in his fifth time up. He's 4-for-6 with four walks so far.
