One other fact to throw in here. The Cubs and the Cardinals have both played 60% of their games so far at home, more than the rest of the division. These things do even out over time. As for the Cubs pilfering the Pirates, now that we've gotten rid of Dave Littlebrains as GM, I really hope those kinds of dumb moves don't happen again. It was nice, though, to see Ramirez go 0 for the series against the Pirates this last weekend. If only Phil Can't-Find-the-Plate had managed to throw a few more strikes (but he's a Reds castoff, so what do I expect?), the Pirates would have actually won that series. Ah, well. Big payback coming up this weekend.

You have nightmares about Aramis don't you HF? Yes, I do. I was in Washington DC that summer when I found out, and I very nearly quit on the Pirates forever. If I could have laid my hands on Littlefield at that moment, I would be doing hard time for life right now.

espn.go.com/mlb/news/2003/0722/1584326.html "You don't like to trade a player like Ramirez who has come up through their system and performed like he did, but we need better talent and more financial flexibility,'' Littlefield said. "We need a lot more players to help us get to where we want to be.'' Nearly 5 years and 430 losses later and the Pirates are still not where they want to be.

Yeah, and Littlefield is finally gone, about 5 years too late. What did they get for Ramirez, a bag of batting practice balls and some used resin bags? Something like that. Oh, the pain...

I believe it was Jose Hernandez, Matt Bruback, and a player to be named later who turned out to be Bobby Hill whom to make room for on the 40 man roster, the Pirates had to designate Bruback for assignment, essentially making the deal Ramirez and Lofton for Hernandez and Hill. Smooth move Davey boy!

That trade definitely allowed the Cubs to mis-spend more of their fortune.....

That trade definitely allowed the Cubs to mis-spend more of their fortune..... Yeah... 154 HR's and 485 RBI's in less than 5 years since the trade. What a huge waste of money.

Not to mention that he's the only good 3rd baseman that the Cubs have had since Ron Santo played 30 years ago.

Come on Formerlancer, what about the Penguin?
I never said Ramirez wasn't good, just that the money was mis-spent. For the money they are giving him, they could have filled a couple of holes with some midlevel guys and added some needed back of the rotation pitching depth and much needed bullpen help. How many playoff games have they won since he has been there? How many All-Star games has he been to? What are his post-season stats like?

You are foolish if you would rather have "some midlevel guys" and "back of the rotation" pitchers over a power-hitting 3B like Aramis Ramirez. But that's par for the course for you.
Aramis went to the All-Star game in 2005.
He was atrocious in the post-season last year going 0-12 but so was every other Cub not named Geovonny Soto. In 2003 he batted .250 with 4 HR's, 10 RBI's, 6 runs scored, and 7 walks in 12 games. Not a great average, but he still had an OBP over .350 and had power numbers that you would expect from a middle of the lineup hitter even though he was hitting 5th behind Sosa and Alou if my memory serves me correctly.
And playoff wins? The Cubs have won 7 playoff games with Aramis manning 3B which is more than any other Cubs 3B this side of WWII.
You're wrong... just admit it.

Well, needless personal attacks are par for the course for you....and not reading peoples post.
I never said he wasn't good, just that I thought the Cubs could have spent the $15 Million in some other places that might have gotten them closer to a World Series title. I never said utility guys, I said "mid-level" guys, meaning 4-5 million dollar guys that could plug more than one hole. That's all, nothing more. And actually, I would love to sit next to Dave Littlefield in any class...I am sure he knows quite a bit more about baseball than either one of us.
Of course, you will probably dismiss that with a personal attack on both of us or just start shouting...............Michigan football is going to suck...........What was the score of the App. St. game......IU doesn't have any players left......q the James Stockdale debate footage.

Well, needless personal attacks are par for the course for you....and not reading peoples post. The mirror works for you as well my friend. Well then your philosophy is different than mine. I don't think you can contend for a World Series consistently without some serious hitters in the middle of your lineup. Today those hitters cost a lot of $, but if you have the money to spend like the Cubs do, then why not spend it? Of course, you will probably dismiss that with a personal attack on both of us or just start shouting...............Michigan football is going to suck...........What was the score of the App. St. game......IU doesn't have any players left......q the James Stockdale debate footage.
