A few questions... A) Does the working too hard part refer to basketball or in the classroom or both? B) Has this been a common practice in the past as you refer that he says MCC teams "were still using" C) Do you honestly expect intelligent people to believe that MCC coaches are out there saying this type of thing? Can you imagine a coach saying that? "We here at _______ will be a great fit for you Joe Recruit, we are different than some schools out there like Bethel College for instance. You don't want to go there because they work you too hard. We tend not to work our players very hard but not to worry, we still win and compete every night.". Come on cowboy, this one is a stretch even for you... Think what you want--but why would a kid lie about it?

I could think of other reasons not to go to Bethel other than working hard...ha! These message boards are so funny!

Well, I think sometimes 17 and 18 year old kids can mis-interpret some things while also having tendancies to embelish at times. Plus, you have to remember he is speaking with a person who is very pro-Bethel and since he is a Bethel signee he might want to justify his collegiate decision by telling you why he chose Bethel over the other schools...
I'm not saying it couldn't have happened, but to think an MCC coach or any coach for that matter would recruit in that fashion is pretty out there if you ask me. Look at my questions I asked before and you tell me if there is any way you think that an MCC coach is going to say that to a recruit of there own to talk them out of going to a specific school.

Feast for the East There were plenty of points to go around
SPORTS FEST 2008
MATT KOPSEA Tribune Staff Writer
MISHAWAKA -- Justin Yoder had his shot set on automatic Friday night.
The Westview product knocked down six of his eight field goal attempts in the first half, good for 15 points, helping Indiana East cruise to 112-78 victory over Michigan in the Sports Fest boys basketball championship game at Bethel's Gates Gymnasium.
Yoder, named the Most Valuable Player, hit five straight shots, including three 3-pointers, during a stretch in which Indiana East outscored Michigan, 37-14, on its way to a 58-34 halftime cushion.
"It's always nice to hit that first lay-up because it really helps to build your confidence level," said Yoder, who finished with 15 points, three assists, and four steals. "I really felt good out there tonight, and the guys all did a great job of finding me open and getting me the ball.
"The fact we didn't practice much together wasn't really a factor because we all know each other from having played one another during high school. This was the tournament I had the most fun playing in because we all get along so well. No one cared about who got the most shots or scored the most points. We were all just focused on the same thing, which was winning a championship for the East."
Jimtown's Derek Johnson paced Indiana East with 16 points, along with Josh Robinson (Elkhart Central) and Steve Tillman (Tippecanoe Valley) with 15 apiece.
In addition to shooting 53 percent as a team, Indiana East also dished out 29 assists and grabbed 28 steals, led by five each from Robinson and Northridge's Derrick Troyer.
"We played with the same intensity and displayed the same chemistry we did the other night (a 93-85 win over Metro)," said Indiana East coach Tim Osborne (Jimtown). "The difference tonight, though, was we didn't let up and kept the pressure on them for the entire 40 minutes."
NorthWood's Aaron McDowell added 14 points and seven rebounds for Indiana East, which led by as many as 36 points and owned a 48-32 margin on the boards.
"I told the kids afterwards that our success was due to the instruction they got from their high school coaches," Osborne added. "Our chemistry, intensity, and fundamentals were all sound because these kids played together as a unit and not as a bunch of individuals.
"At our practice, I told them to smile and enjoy the moment. We had a lot of fun this week, but we also were able to take care of our business as well."
Brad Guinane (St. Joseph) tallied 11 of his game-high 19 points in the second half, while Ryan Ross (Michigan Lutheran) added 11 points for Michigan, which committed 24 turnovers.

Looks like Yoder is going to be a great pick up for Cornerstone! I wish HU could have gotten, even though we are guard heavy. It just seems to make sense for a Yoder to be a Forester

It's right up there with: Don't go there because you won't play right away. Don't go there because you have to follow all their rules.

How do you know that he works his team so much harder? Have you sat in on every practice of every team to see how every coach runs their program? I'm sure other players have transfered from other institutions because they didn't like the work. Or, if they're transferring because it's too hard, maybe they aren't in the best shape for it? It's assuming a lot to say that type of thing, not playing right away and following rules are legitimate reasons for people, working too hard isn't as much in my opinion.

Wow cowboy, after taking that so called break of yours from this message board you have come back with some statements that seem to have alot of people scratching their heads...
How can you possibly sit there and say the things you just did? Tubballfan is right on. You may be a so called "expert" on Bethel basketball and I'm not doubting you when it comes to their team but to make such ridiculous assumptions about the other programs and coaches in the league is just wrong.
By the way, why did you release your self-ban from bethelhoops awhile back? I'm very curious having seen some of these recent comments of yours...

So far I count only 3, perhaps 4, people "scratching their heads."
I happened to participate in the conversation that Cowboy reported on. It ranged over a number of topics and recruiting was not the most important one. Regarding recruiting, the student-athlete was describing his experience. From what he said, the "working too hard" comment did not come from a head coach. It sounds like it came from someone doing some scouting.

I will scratch my head on these comments by Cowboy. How could he possibly know how hard other coaches work their players? I am sure he hasn't been invited to observe practices and conditioning throughout the MCC. I can't speak for any other schools practices or contioning because I have not been involved, but HU's teams work very hard and for someone to think they know BC works harder is crazy. Statements like that make at least some wonder how accurate other statements are.

You can also put me in the "scratching my head" category. Not just for this particular instance too.

Half the time I don't read what Cowboy writes because I would be doing more than "scratching my head."
