The US blew an opportunity to secure a trip to the quarterfinals with a win over the Netherlands today. The Dutch were the favorites to win the group but we had the lead 2-1 going into extra time and the Dutch tied it on a free kick right outside the box. It's disappointing because we were a minute away from a huge upset and a 2-0 record heading into the game with Nigeria. Now we have to do well in the Nigeria game to advance and we'll have to do so without Freddy Adu and Bradford who both picked up 2nd yellow cards in the match today. I hope they advance to the next round or they'll be kicking themselves for this one. The last 2 minutes aside, the Americans played a great second half with goals from Sasha and Jozie. They showed a lot of heart to get back in it when it looked like the Dutch were going to dominate.

I watched this match before going to church this morning and it was a real fun contest. Outside of the World Cup and the Olympics, I could care less about international soccer, but I really enjoyed that match. It was a major disappointment that the Netherlands scored that goal in the final seconds but the US looked really good, especially in the second half.

Agreed. I'm worried about the match with Nigeria without the combo of Adu and Bradford. Freddy does so much for the team pressuring the opponents back line when they have the ball and are trying to reshape or build up a good counterattack. I hope they are able to at least draw with the Nigerians and make it on to the next round!
