Why so long until we get the Landon story on the IWU Wildcats site? It would have been timely when we found out on here, but all of us MCC'ers who genuinely care have known about it since we were in Pampers or Huggies... (o.k. maybe not that long, but for a decent length of time)
That's something I never understand about smaller schools. I think that it would drive me nuts having to wait that long to post it if I were an S.I.D...
It finally makes the official site. I wonder if we didn't find out Notre Dame's Kevin White signed with Duke until about August what that would be like?
And the Troyer dude from Northridge... where's his signing info?
I think

Clint,
As an SID and an IWU fan, I too wonder about why the announcement of the signing of Landon Adler came so late but I think I have a few areas that could of upheld this announcement. Although I have no knowledge of any of these things being true, any could hold up a signings press release.
1) A press release is technically not suppossed to be written and released until a prospective student-athlete has signed the national letter of intent. With Adler being enrolled at Florida Gulf Coast, there may have been a hangup regarding getting it signed and returned.
2) Being a transfer, especially between two divisions, it might be a compliance related issue where it involves getting releases signed and given the okay process on both ends. Also, it could be an area of concern regarding how much athletic/academic aide the prospective athlete will receive and the school never wants to release something like this and then it not work out.
3) This is a remote possibility but with Spring sports in full swing including postseason, the SID and the men's basketball program may have chosen not to announce it untill after the seasons are over with as to not to distract from the Spring Sports and their championship season.
This is just my opinion but I can also see why you are wondering what was going on. I don't know what the story is on the Northridge kid. He signed so long ago something could have changed I suppose.

Wesley has definitely stated a few reasons why there are hang-ups. Here's a couple more that I've encountered in my 10 years as SID as to why signings get delayed:
1 - The coach is trying to schedule a "big name" school and is afraid that "big name" school will not play them if they find out they have a DI transfer coming in, so the coach wants to delay the signing until after a contract has been signed with "big name" school. 2 - Transfers are very sticky because they often don't sign a letter of intent and administration gets very touchy over releasing names of "signed" players who have no documentation. 3 - Player "A" may have committed but may not have actually been accepted to the school yet, either because there are questions of eligibility or just because the player has not found the time to get his/her application sent in to the school. In this case, administration is often hesitant to release a name. 4 - The coach/player just don't care about whether or not the information is released. Some coaches just don't worry about whether or not a press release is done on players signing and they don't push the issue. If an SID doesn't have information, he/she can't write anything.
Those are a few reasons off the top of my head that a signing release gets delayed. Give me about a 1/2 hour and I can probably come up with 10 more reasons why I've delayed releasing signings over the years.

Here's another reason. This isn't really applicable at the NCAA level, since coaches are not allowed to do signing photos with athletes, but at the NAIA level, a lot of times the coach/player want to do a "posed" photo for the signing. Sometimes it takes some time to get schedules to coincide when everyone can be at the same place at the same time (the player/the coach/the parents, etc.).
As for Kevin White leaving Notre Dame, that's a personnel issue, which is a WHOLE different story. As for DI signings, with the extra media attention on those kids, the reasons those get announced so quickly are numerous: (A)Player tells media where he/she has decided to go, (B)SID staff is much bigger at DI institution and they can quickly and easily send out releases on signing days, (C)Family member leaks information about where the player is going.

Interesting anecdotal piece of info. A high school in my home area hired a new coach Marc Polite last Wednesday who was an alum of the school and played at Eastern Illinois. He then went into coaching as an assistant at a Danville, IL high school and then EIU. His last assistant gig? Florida Gulf Coast. I wonder what his thoughts are on Adler.
