May I ask a couple of questions here - as a non-Grace, non-MVNU, and non-Crossroads League guy. On the surface of things, this looks like (and I suppose it is) a "demotion" - going from coaching at the college level (even NAIA) to coaching at the high school level. That being said, while I don't know a lot of Indiana high school basketball either, I do believe that Kokomo is a pretty premier high school coaching job. So was there a sense that Matt had done all he could do at MVNU? Certainly MVNU is not a "power" in the CL - though I know in the past they have played in the NAIA national tournament - (appearance in 2006 [sportsmanship award winner], Scott Fleming [1998 Coach of the Year at the national tournament], and overall they've made 8 appearances at the national tournament (1995-98-99-00-06-07-08-09). But the last 5 years ('10-'14), they have not been a major player in the CL or on the national scene. This situation also makes me wonder who will take over for Matt, and where the program will go in the years to come - though who can say for sure. Just some thoughts. Any response?

I know absolutely nothing about MVNU, so can't comment on that. I do understand that Kokomo has some BIG plusses: 1) This is a one-school, basketball crazy town, 2) They are part of probably the premier sports conference in the state (....Carmel, Lafayette Jeff for starters). They will never compete with Carmel in football, but basketball?? Maybe. Because of their love and tradition in basketball, 3) he should be able to build a good feeder program, if there's not already one in place.
The competitive nature of this level of high school bball in Indiana should be a great challenge for Moore. It's bound to be an exciting challenge, and perhaps his hands were more tied at the college level. If he succeeds at Kokomo and has some good years there, the chance to return to college (if he desires) should still be there.

Great hire for Kokomo. Class act from day one did a very good job with our program. I was a student when Flemming was coaching and as the AD and basketball coach he ruled the roost. Now that MVNU doesn't have that in the basketball position they don't have the same resources, I believe. I have heard that MVNU is cutting basketball back from 4 scholarships down to 3 next season. Reason enough for Moore to leave under those conditions. He might not have won games like we hoped but he did everything else so much better than it had been done previously. Best of luck. I hope MVNU takes this hire seriously. My sources tell me they won't and will just hire to get done with the process.

I'm wondering who will take over as the Conference Rater...

It's not a demotion at all! It's a great move! Matt left the Mount Vernon program in very good shape. Did you see how well they played the last couple weeks of the year? They have a ton coming back next year. Matt is a native Hoosier, and his family lives here in Indiana. The Kokomo move is a sweet move for him, since it puts him back home again in Indiana, much closer to his family! Getting the Kokomo job is a huge honor for him! I am so pumped for him! Kokomo just made a superb hire, and they will love the Moore family soooo much!

I did not mean to disparage Matt at all - that's why I put "demotion" in quotes; college is college, and high school is high school - that's all I meant. But I do know a little (not much!) about "Hoosier Hysteria", i.e., Indiana high school basketball. I know that Kokomo is a quality high school program, and I have no doubt the gyms will be packed and loud for sure. I wish him and his family well. But, as someone else said on here, it will be interesting to see whom MVNU hires to replace Matt, and where MVNU goes in the conference. With Bethel, IWU, Grace, Huntington, Marian, et al., it's a very competitive conference.

Conference Rater for what I been hearing is one of these three people for next year.
Coach Platt from Huntington Coach LaCross form USF A-train from Grace
I guessing it will be Platt.
I know A-train helped out in the past with rankings with Coach Rek and others but I don't think they would give a non-coach this title.
Congrats to Coach Moore on the new job.
Anyone know of the new coach yet for MVNU will be?

From what I have heard, rater is not a sought after position, especially for part time coaches. A lot of extra work, nothing but grief, and no upside.
Typically it falls to someone who is full time.

So does anyone know if Mt Vernon is going to field a team with a coach this upcoming season? I have heard that the current administration is not "pro" athletics but geesh let's go. Either only 6 people applied and none qualify or there is something to the departure of former coach Matt Moore that might make more sense now. Maybe a lack of belief in the people making decisions? Or the cafeteria food is bad, but that's everywhere I am guessing. Is an 6-8 week timeline typical this late in the summer? My guess is MV hasn't even begun the interview process.

I don't think I would consider it a demotion either...He will probably get more support at Kokomo than he did at MVNU. Kokomo is a school that I think has a great basketball tradition.
