Interesting nautical theme for this game. From the Massey Ratings site for Cal Maritime - masseyratings.com/team.php?t=1030&s=203290The Keelhaulers played only 8 teams all season that had a Massey composite of less than 1000 and had a record of 4-4 against those teams. Out of the 8 teams, only 3 had a rating under 800 - The Master's (695), Westmont (698), and Southern Oregon (670). The Keelhaulers lost to the Masters by 22, Westmont by 19 and Southern Oregon by 1. Bethel's Massey composite is 540 which means that according to Massey, Bethel is the best team that C.M. will play all year. In my view, this is a great first-round draw for the Pilots.

Tremendous draw for the Pilots! Would not be surprised at all with them getting to at least to the Elite 8. They will win the first round by 20+ over Cal Maritime setting up an intriguing match-up with whomever wins the Ozarks game.

Fire as I agree that bethel got a good draw. Looking back at last year Cal Maritime beat #4 northwestern in the 1st round the GPAC champion. Not sure if they graduated a lot of their guys or not. All I know is it's going to be tough for any team to match up with Miller and Benner

I almost hope C of Idaho wins. If Ozark wins, they just pick up more momentum and more crowd support. Beating Idaho would be a huge task, but it would be a neutral game. If Idaho beats Ozark easily, that will confirm what I believe, that they are a very good team and capable of winning it all. Having said that, Go Pilots. BC is accustomed to being the underdog (as they would against either of these), and handles it pretty well.

Anyone close to the bethel program know the scouting report on their first round matchup with cal maritime or are they already looking to the 2nd round with coach never having lost in the first round.

i can tell you the pilots are not already looking into the second round nor have they ever looked ahead in tournament play. they are definitely not overlooking cal maritime either.

I agree. Bethel has too good a staff to allow their guys to look past any opponent. With that said, I would not be surprised if they kept some things in the back pocket for later rounds that they do not use all the time but do prove effective (press, zone, etc.) With Bethel's offensive versatility, I could see them make a run and any advantage they can get over an opponent, including a future one, they will use.

I was surprised that Cal Maritime beat Northwestern so solidly last year, and I was equally surprised that Grace handled them as well as they did - though Grace did have a good team. I tend to agree with the assessment above by tamrik - I don't think Cal Maritime has played nearly as tough a schedule as Bethel, and I suspect the Pilots will dispatch them with relative ease. Hopefully C of I wins and dispatches Ozarks as well. In that case, a second round matchup of Bethel and College of Idaho would be a really fun game to see.

This was a fun and fast paced game. It's the first time I've seen Zach Miller in person - the kid's a pure shooter! Great team win by the Pilots - Mislan and Gerber played great minutes in the second half. I had the privilege of calling the play by play for the Watch NAIA video feed. Great fun, and a real honor as well. Here's to a Pilots win over Ozarks tomorrow night!
