--Let's remember we are talking about a coach who has won over 700 games, 10 Crossroads league titles, and has been in the CL tourney championship 4 of the past 6 years. --We've won 22 games and have a better record than last year. --In regards to playing time: Last time I checked, playing time in games is earned in practice. Have you personally been to practices and know that these guys deserve to play because of that, and not because they are seniors?? You hear the side of the players and parents, but that is only one side of the story. Playing time shouldn't be given just because you are a senior. Book didn't play the second half of the Marian game because Caleb was playing well. You honor the player playing well. It's just easy to question the coach/coaches when you only get the players side. --Also, why are you questioning playing time when BC won? (Marian) --When a team has a solid record and a great coaching staff, when people, or the players themselves, question a players playing time it makes me wonder if the player/players is worried about themselves, or the team? --There are also other factors that go into the amount of playing time, such as certain match-ups and game scenarios. --Where were these questions when the Pilots were winning? Nothing really has changed in regards to playing time... As stated in all of my previous posts, I have never had a problem with the Bethel coaching staff nor how they manage the game. Their track record speaks for itself! If things were flowing people would not be saying a word so that is not a problem from my perspective. The issues I see are related to the execution on the floor, (coaches don't play)and how it seems our demise coincides with a score off of the bounce mentality. The Pilots are a tough act to beat if they play as a team, when it becomes a 1 on 1 (isolation and score) game, teams are taking it to us. The Pilots have had a great season and they can take that trip to Branson if they put it together in the conference tournament. We are more than capable of winning it, it is time to right the ship and play as we are capable of playing. Bethel does have a strong senior class and it is time for them to step up and lead this team to a comeback. Saturday should be exciting, a win will reset the sails and hopefully turn the momentum back in our favor. I have a soft spot for all seniors, I thought it was cool that Taylor started Rikonon on senior night even though he has been coming off the bench. A nice reward for a senior that has given a lot to the program. Nothing neater than to see any basketball team at any level have a group of seniors after 4 years of building something make a deep run into the tournament and have memories that last a lifetime. I was not implying that anyone should be given minutes because they are seniors and I have never watched a practice but when you look at the stats for this years conference games for the kids in this discussion I think it's pretty easy to feel like they have earned those minutes. Questioning coaches is easy and if you were offended by what I said then please accept my apology Pilot, All I know from talking to them is that No one wants to win more than the seniors and it's incredibly frustrating to have to sit and watch your team get beat and not get to play. I personally don't think that makes a kid selfish for believing he should play, I want every player I have to believe that he should be playing. They don't get another chance next year and they don't ever get those chances again, obviously the coaches feel that playing them limited minutes or not at all gives Bethel the best chance to win and that is the most important thing. I know this group is tight and they all pull for each other and I guess it's only human to get frustrated when it doesn't go how they want it to. While it is true that the coaches know more than the players I do believe that the players know in there hearts after playing together for 3 or 4 years who gives them the best chance to win even though it differs from the coaches and thus there is a rub. This group will continue to compete and hopefully they can make to Branson. Thankfully basketball will not be what defines this group as you have guys with great character, academic all-americans and more importantly young men that are pursuing God.

Everyone needs to chill. As usual when a team loses a game they should have won, everyone is willing to write off the season. If people remember last year, BC was dead in the water until they came back from certain defeat at Marian and then went on to win the league tournament. If Bethel beats Grace and gets a couple wins in the tournament everything will be back in sync. However, BC needs to improve on their perimeter defense. Every guard in the league has a career nite against BC. In regards to the seniors, all I can say is that this is a wonderful group of Christian young men that respect and play for each other. Each knows his role and is willing to play it. I would hire any of these men to work for my business and I truly believe their legacy as productive young men and loving husbands and fathers will make Bethel proud. In regards to playing time, I agree with the earlier quote which indicated that playing time is earned during the Summer (weight lifting, conditioning and workouts), practice and individual workouts outside of practice. My understanding is the players that are getting the minutes surprisingly are the ones that work the hardest off the court. Overall, I truly respect BC basketball and look forward to seeing them in Branson.

I can relate to that, hoage. Last night, CU lost at home to cross-town rival Aquinas 75-70, after a 14 game winning streak. We had just wrapped up the outright WHAC regular season championship the previous game, and I think we may have been a little fatigued after a lot of big games. AQ was very physical, and we just did not respond well. It's amazing how one loss can give you all kinds of angst. Now in my head I know - CU will be fine, and will be a threat to go deep into the tournament at Branson. Likewise, Bethel fans - I say this to you; your team is very good, and you will be in Branson. You have one of the greatest coaches ever at any level, especially the NAIA. And don't forget - your conference may be the toughest one top to bottom in the country (the GPAC is good, but you are probably better, imo). Don't be like the little huddle of guys in Hoosiers who want to show up to Coach Norman Dale's practices and tell him how to run his team! BTW, that last sentence was said in fun, and I was smiling when I typed it!
