Good win for Taylor tonight. Schauss had 29 for Bethel. Taylor was led by Stidom with 24.

Pilots really struggled at home on Saturday against MVNU, was hoping they were more on target tonight. Apparently didn't happen. Barely beating one team at bottom of conference and losing to another is not very encouraging. Can't say much good right now. Disappointing way to finish season. May have to win CL tournament to go to Branson, but playing like they are right now, maybe they shouldn't go. Grace has to feel very good about getting a win at BC on Saturday.

Grace just lost to MVNU - that makes three Ls in a row. If neither team steps up it could be an ugly game.

Bad loss, problem remains the same. If Miller and Benner shoot good they win and when they don't they lose. Bigger problem is that Bethel is just awful at guarding the perimeter, every game someone is setting a season high or career high against them. Throw in the mix that they play small most of the time and even Taylor out rebounds them by 10. By playing small it kills Miller because no one is screening, he is working his tail off but without screens it just doesn't work. Love the John Wooden quote that says Don't mistake activity for achievement! That's where Bethel is, they have 4 guards running around hunting their own shots trying to out score teams and it appears that defense is optional by looking at the stats.
Find 5 guys that will defend and play together and you might have a chance, Running out of time quickly, hope things look better Sat against Grace for Senior day. Go Pilots

Go Pilots I would agree 100% with your statements. There are several things wrong and you touched on a couple of them. 1). When the point guards are more interested in scoring than assisting Bethel is in trouble. (Go look at the quality wins and this will be proven, the more we score out of the pt. guard spot the more we struggle) 2). The ball is not being moved by the point guards, they are more interested in dribbling it up the court than passing it. They hold on to it too long. (I don't know how many times I have seen players open on the wings early and the pass is ignored and never made, you are a point guard and your primary job is to run the offense and get teammates in a position to be successful. (this could be a selfish issue that needs to be resolved) 3). The best screener, hustler is Gerber and he was on the bench the majority of the game. He is the one player that gets teammates open.(He helped win the IWU game with his screens and hustle, he has a screener/rebounder first mentality, and scorer second) 4). The number #1 3pt shooter in the nation is getting 5-7 highly contested shots a game now, when Bethel was winning he was taking 12-15, get the kid open. In all of the big wins, Northwood, IWU, USF he got open and took shots. In the losses, IWU(1st game), Huntington he is not involved in the offense and it is a 1 on 1 mentality. When you are face guarded teammates must help create space. Either they can't screen or they won't. (Coaches need to figure who can't or won't. Bethel has proven you can't win without him, they had better find a way to use him. 5). We must get some scoring at the rim, if the bigs will screen hard for the guards off of the ball, the help will open up opportunity’s at the rim for them if the ball is delivered in a timely manner. (See point #2.) 6). Together we are a good team, individually we are a very poor team and have been exposed the past couple of games. Bethel still has a chance to turn this around. Grace is in the same boat as an underachiever and will give the Pilots a real test on senior day. The trip to Branson is in question, the tournament may be the only road to Missouri for the Bethel Pilots. Sports does not just build character, it reveals it in both players and coaches. Who takes the responsiblity and who will make the changes to be successful. What are we going to do about it NOW!

This is such a good group of seniors for BC. They will be missed, in numerous ways. Expectations were high this year, and for the most part they have delivered. Miller was named Academic All-American and that is better than any on court award. I know this will be a huge disappointment for the seniors who had their sights set much higher, but they have had great careers.
A lot of opportunities for incoming frosh next year with so many seniors. Miller, Schauss, Oetjen, Smith and Wassink will provide the nucleus of returnees and that is a small and thin list coming back. Ott (6-6), Cochran, Steuve (6-6) and the other 6-6 kid coming in will have to get their game going early. A huge test next year for sure.

It is a GREAT group of seniors but sadly the coach has refused to play them much. Mislan has gotten an absolutely awful deal, even the announcers last night were wanting to see him in the second half after a solid 1st half and TU was going small and yet nothing. He played as good as anyone at HU in the 1st half and never sniffed the floor in the 2nd. Booker never played a minute in the 2nd half of the Marion game after a solid 1st. This is a 5th year senior that works so hard and is a Great teammate. I have had the opportunity to talk to several of the players over the last few weeks and even a couple of parents of kids that play a ton and I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that the 7 upper classman are PO with coach with the way Mislan, Booker and Gerber have been relegated to small roll players. When those kids have been given big minutes we play well( ck the IWU stats) and the JR and Sr know it.
According to the players those 3 have received the brunt of all criticism even when they don't play, I know that sounds goofy but the kid telling me was even shaking his head, blame kids all you want but it sounds to me like there is a major lack of respect from the team towards coach because of the ongoing criticism and negativity displayed this year towards the seniors. My personal opinion is that this group is mentally exhausted from it all. Hope I'm wrong!

I don't know about the inner workings of the team, I just know that what they had working has been lost and they need to get back to what made Bethel a tough team to play. The road to Branson now requires a conference tournament championship... probably. The players have had such a solid year, I just hate to see it all go south at the end.

I don't think Bethel needs to win the CL tournament to get in. But they probably need to beat Grace and/or win 1 or 2 CL tournament games to get in. But I would be shocked if they don't make it to Branson. In fact, I'm looking forward to connecting with the Bethel folks I know down in Branson.

Have you personally been to practices and know that these guys deserve to play because of that, and not because they are seniors?? You hear the side of the players and parents, but that is only one side of the story. Playing time shouldn't be given just because you are a senior. Book didn't play the second half of the Marian game because Caleb was playing well. You honor the player playing well. It's just easy to question the coach/coaches when you only get the players side. --Also, why are you questioning playing time when BC won? (Marian) --When a team has a solid record and a great coaching staff, when people, or the players themselves, question a players playing time it makes me wonder if the player/players is worried about themselves, or the team? --There are also other factors that go into the amount of playing time, such as certain match-ups and game scenarios. --Where were these questions when the Pilots were winning? Nothing really has changed in regards to playing time...

Nothing really has changed in regards to playing time... As stated in all of my previous posts, I have never had a problem with the Bethel coaching staff nor how they manage the game. Their track record speaks for itself! If things were flowing people would not be saying a word so that is not a problem from my perspective. The issues I see are related to the execution on the floor, (coaches don't play)and how it seems our demise coincides with a score off of the bounce mentality. The Pilots are a tough act to beat if they play as a team, when it becomes a 1 on 1 (isolation and score) game, teams are taking it to us. The Pilots have had a great season and they can take that trip to Branson if they put it together in the conference tournament. We are more than capable of winning it, it is time to right the ship and play as we are capable of playing. Bethel does have a strong senior class and it is time for them to step up and lead this team to a comeback. Saturday should be exciting, a win will reset the sails and hopefully turn the momentum back in our favor.

As we let out frustrations I'm hoping the players don't get on here and read, lol. They are undoubtably great guys and the few games I've seem on live feed (poor quality and all) shows this group playing hard. This is for sure a team built on a strong perimeter game and when the shots aren't dropping it could be a long night. I appreciate the work that Mislan, Oetting, Wassink and Gerber do down low. It doesn't get much credit when the 3's are falling, but they are a critical part of the team. I don't know if they're going to Branson or NCCAA (if that's an option), but I know this is a competitive bunch and have no doubt they will leave it all on the court. Good luck BC, have a great finish.

I haven't seen it addressed anywhere, but I assume J. Mott is no longer with the team. His size could have been a big help. I mentioned the incoming big guys next year in a previous post, for fairness I should mention Coon, Glass and Mitchell will help out in the backcourt next year. The perimeter once again looks good next season.

Wish Jared and his wife the best of luck in the future!
