To recognize Coach Groce's inaugural game, the Orange Krush student section encourages everyone in attendance to join them by participating in "Orange Hush." As a tribute to Groce's alma mater, Taylor University, Krush will replicate Taylor's famous tradition of "Silent Night," where at one designated game each season, the entire gym remains silent from tip-off until the Trojans score their 10th point. When that 10th point is scored, the crowd then erupts into a wild celebration. Thought you guys would be interested. I might be in attendance. www.fightingillini.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/110712aae.html

It was a fun night. Not all the fans got the memo about the "silent night" because there were probably 50-100 fans clapping after each of Illinois first three shots, but for the most part it was a success! As for the actual game I was very impressed with the outside shooting of the Illini. They knocked down 13 3's which is more than any game all last season and 10 of those 3's came in the first half. Sophomore PG Tracy Abrams really impressed me with his extended range and play-making ability. He had 13 points and 5 assists. Brandon Paul will be the steady scorer for this team as he made up the difference in the game scoring 20 points in the 75-55 victory over Colgate.

I hope they make this a yearly tradition... I've been going to the one at Taylor since I was a kid, and it's simply incredible. However, if a full B10 stadium could pull this off, and pull it off WELL, it could be unreal. The next step is to add costumes... and the singing of Silent Night... If you can get a guy in a gorilla costume chasing a guy in a banana costume that'd be ideal...

They talked about the Silent Night game on the Gardner-Webb/Illinois telecast today and even had a video clip of Taylor's Silent Night. Interesting that Gardner-Webb's coach and Groce played together at Taylor. That's got to be a first right? Two Taylor grad's coaching DI team's facing each other?
