I think I've posted something about this before, but I'll do it again. Ben Wilson was one of if not the best basketball player in the country when his senior year was set to begin in 1984. He had just helped lead his Chicago Simeon team to a state title the year before and was poised to decide between many of the top colleges in the country. That was until he was gunned down in front of his HS in an apparent robbery. It was a great tragedy that still resonates today in Chicago. Here is a solid 3 part series (totals about 25 min) There will be an ESPN 30 for 30 about Ben coming out later this fall: The reason I bring this up is because every Simeon player who has played basketball at the University of Illinois since Wilson's death has honored him by wearing #25 starting with his dear friend and future NBA veteran Nick Anderson, then going to all-time Illini scoring leader Deon Thomas, Bryant Notree, All-Big Ten Kevin Turner, Calvin Brock, and now next year Kendrick Nunn. It was a big deal for Kendrick to carry on that tradition that means a lot to him and a lot to his dad who was also a Simeon alum. distilleryimage5.s3.amazonaws.com/53083942035111e295e3123138048d2c_7.jpg
