I'm not sure what the argument is here?

And Memphis has had more top 15 picks than Illinois in the past 15 years. Does that mean they have more top-end talent than Illinois? You're grasping at straws. Do you really think 1st round draft pick is the sole judgment on talent? I think it's the best indicator we have. We all know Pryor, Posey, Adams, and Laurinaitis are/were all first round "talents." They weren't taken out of the first round because they didn't have the talent. Really? Why weren't they taken there? Why would you consider them 1st round talents, but 5*'s like Rejus Benn (taken in the 2nd round), and Martez Wilson (taken in the 3rd) aren't? There's tremendous flaws in your reasoning here my friend. Why is past 5 years so much more relevant than past 6 years? Why are the past 5 years more relevant than the past 6? Several reasons... 1. How often do you here people talking about the past 6 years of anything unless it fits an agenda they're trying to push? All that proves is that Ohio State had a great draft class in 2007. 2. 2008 was the first class where the players coming out were recruited by Zook (namely Mendenhall even though he committed to Turner, Zook held his commitment). 3. The 2007 season (when Illinois went to the Rose Bowl) was Illinois' coming out party. That was the year we finally showed what were capable of in stretches and when the top-end talent started to shine. Yes there were a few NFL players that came out of the Turner-era (David Diel, Tony Pashos, Kelvin Hayden, Alan Ball, Steve Weatherford, Neil Rackers, & Pierre Thomas who was recruited by Turner but played his last 2 years under Zook), but none of them were as highly-touted or were top-end talent like Zook's guys. Illinois needed a change after their collapse this past season, but the Zooker brought this program out of the dark ages and set it up well for a good run under Beckman. Don't get me wrong, Illinois will never be Michigan or Ohio State, but I don't see why we can't have the sustained success of a Michigan State or an Iowa with the right coach in place. Incognito, whether you like it or not, this is likely to happen in next year's draft too with top end defensive players like Michael Buchanan, Akeem Spence, Terry Hawthorne, and possibly Johnathan Brown all coming out. I think Illinois will struggle on the field next year because their offense just doesn't have the play-makers needed to win big, but their defense is going to be dominant like it was last year. The schedule lays out a fairly rational 7-5 season.
