My long-standing argument with Feller has been that Indiana HS basketball always has better teams than Illinois HS basketball, but Illinois produces far more talent on a regular basis (which is a time tested fact). However, this year it's just the opposite. Illinois has the weakest senior class in its history with only 2 high major players (Michael Orris going to Illinois and Steve Taylor going to Marquette), while Indiana has tons of top tier players (Harris, Yogi, Patterson, etc.). That said Illinois has the #1 team in the nation in 2-time defending state champion Chicago Simeon led by Taylor and 5-star juniors Jabari Parker and Kendrick Nunn. Just thought it was interesting.

It's an interesting year in Indianapolis.
Off the top of my head, you have to think that Park Tudor or Lawrence Central are the best teams, maybe even add Indy Tech to that list. It's a toss up.
One thing is for certain, there are more high major D1 players in the city of Indianapolis at this point and time (Freshmen - Senior) than at any point in recent history, that I can recall. Indianapolis is LOADED right now.

And there is still not as much talent in Indy as there is in Chicago. I know it's not really a fair fight given the population disparity, so Indy should be praised for the amount of talent they are currently producing.

How many years in a row has Chicago had a kid picked in the first round of the NBA draft?
I think Indianapolis is at 9 or 10 right now?

We've had it several times and Chicago wins every time. I do have some free time coming up later this week, so if you would really like me to blow a few hours researching this just to prove you wrong again, I can.

No need, I'm just asking a question. If you get defensive about it, I can't help that.
There should certainly be MORE talent from Chicago, than Indianapolis (as you stated above because of population alone) but as I always say.....Indianapolis will always have the better teams. At first glance, I see 12 of the Top 150 in America (2012) are from Indiana, and I'm okay with that. No need to start a pissing match.

And that was the whole point of the original post. For once, Indiana has more talent in their senior class (worst class in Illinois history), but Illinois has a better team (Simeon may be the best in Illinois state history).

I'd still pick North Central over Simeon...and the scary thing is that North Central lost Smith-Rivera to Oak Hill Academy to boot. They are pretty solid....

This Simeon team has won 2 straight state titles, and has multiple high major recruits on it. Unlike some uber-talented HS teams that play street ball, Simeon actually runs sets and has great coaching. Simeon's coach Robert Smith has already been on record saying this team is better than any of his Derrick Rose-led squads.

Meh............color me not impressed. It's Illinois High School Basketball. ;D
I'm sure they are very good....but I'll always believe that Indiana kids get the best coaching available at the high school level. When you add big time talent to that mix, you get the best teams in America.

I'm watching Simeon right now on ESPNU, and I have to say.....I'm not very impressed at all.
They are fast and jump high, but so far I've seen one possession where they made more than four passes (they got a 3 out of that trip)...and the game is in the 4th Quarter. They are losing to Findlay Prep, again.....shocked how high they rank these "teams." Findlay lost earlier this month to an awful LaLumiere (Laporte, IN) team that plays a national schedule with Major D1 talents but also get owned consistently by random Indiana High Schools.

LaLumiere is far from awful and so is Simeon. Simeon however, did play an awful game today. They've done a lot more travelling than just about every other actual HS team, and have beaten a lot of top teams in other states. I would consider today an anomaly instead of the rule for the Wolverines.
