Bethel College Pilots: 5 NAIA National Championship vs. Morningside: 1 Game Summary
The Bethel College softball team opened up the NAIA National Championship in Decatur, Ala. in grand fashion with a 5—1 win over Morningside College on Thursday morning.
The Pilots and Mustangs battled to a 1—1 tie through seven complete innings. Kelli Zache kept Bethel in the ball game by throwing six innings allowing only three hits and one earned run. Zache recorded nine strikeouts to keep Morningside in check while the Pilots offense began to warm up.
After loading the bases in the top of the eighth inning, Kaitlyn Dubois came up with the big blow in the form of a grand slam to give Bethel the 5—1 lead.
Rachel Zirille pitched the final two innings allowing zero hits with three strikeouts to pick up the victory. Zirille picked up a hit in the Pilots’ huge eighth for good measure.
Up next for the Pilots is a 2:00 pm contest with IU Southeast on Friday afternoon.
