With last nights win over St. Francis, Bethel secures the regular season conference championship. They now stand at 14-0-1 on the season and are one of only five unbeaten teams in the NAIA going into their final regular season game at Marian on Saturday.
It's a shame that our conference has not been as strong this year as in years past as Bethel's strength of schedule has been a detrement in the Longo point ratings system. There are currently 6 teams ranked higher than Bethel with 2 or 3 losses.
However #25 Hannibal Lagrange, a team Bethel beat convincingly earlier this season has just upset #8 Columbia College and will move up in the rankings and pull one of the teams ahead of Bethel out with them.
All in all, the BC men have had an outstanding season with some great come from behind games and are looking to make a good run in the NAIA national tournament this year.
Congratulations to Coach Pinto on a great start to his career at Bethel and to all of the guys who worked so hard to succeed.

What kind of playoff system is set up to crown a national champion in NAIA soccer? Is it all one level instead of two like in basketball? Forgive my ignorance.

Basketball is the only sport in which there are two Divisions in the NAIA, which also effects scholarship limits.
The NAIA has changed their playoff system in recent years with the Conference champions getting direct qualification to the NAIA National Tournament, instead of just Region Winners. I for one believe this to be a very good setup.
Congrats to the Pilots on an awesome season thus far!
