Laugh all you want. He'll be a solid B1G wing in a year when he's eligible.

Keep up the good work Illinois Basketball. What happened to all this respect you have for Coach Groce? I suppose that was press conference fluff and now you're back to bashing all things Illini huh?

Illinois picks up a 5th year transfer Sam McLaren a 6'7 PF from Coastal Carolina. This is a no lose pickup because it adds to our front-court depth that we desperately need next year, and doesn't take away a scholarship for future classes.

No. I don't want him. He could be a decent shooter, but not the overall skill set we need and would further screw class balance. Go to Purdue where you're wanted.

Groce likes those quick point guards who can make plays and that he can let loose. He also has a history of recruiting from Indiana... I wouldn't be surprised to see it happen.

Assistant Isaac Chew has jumped ship to Marquette less than 2 months after taking the job from Missouri. What a complete joke he is. Illinois will be under a lot of pressure to find a solid replacement with Chicago connections as Chew was their main Chicago guy.

John Groce got his first commit from a high school prospect today in 2013 big man Maverick Morgan from Springboro, Ohio. Morgan is a 6'10 center who is ranked as the #148 player in the country by Rivals, chose Illinois over Wisconsin, Minnesota, Xavier, West Virginia, and Vanderbilt. He's a nice big body to help with the obvious depth issues that Illinois will have after they graduate 2 post players from next year's roster. As for the 2013 class as a whole, this commit was not surprising. With Groce and company deciding to part ways with former PG commit Jalen James who hadn't seen any improvement over the past year, the Illini will now set their sights on another PG and possibly another combo guard to fill out their class. They still have SG/SF Malcolm Hill, the #53 player in the class, in the fold. They're recruiting 5* PG Tyler Ennis very hard, and he has put the Illini in his top 5, but he's probably going to stay out east (likely Syracuse). They also are pursuing 4* Mishawaka guard Demetrius Jackson very hard, but he's likely headed to Notre Dame or Michigan State. I believe they'll land 4* PG Monte Morris of Flint, MI who the staff has made several inroads with. As for the other scholarship, they're still pursuing 4* Chicago Simeon guard Kendrick Nunn very hard, but I think he's probably going to Marquette or maybe even Kentucky if they decide to offer. There's always the faint hope of landing Jabari Parker, but I think this staff arrived too late in the game to make something happen there. I bet they bank the scholarship and try to put together a solid 2014 class that could include top 50 players like Larry Austin and Keita Bates-Diop who are both central Illinois products. rivals.yahoo.com/illinois/basketball/recruiting/player-Maverick-Morgan-130813
