Former Pilots Soccer Star Eric Carpenter Signs Pro Contract
Former Bethel College soccer player Eric Carpenter has signed a pro contract with the Cleveland City Stars of the United Soccer League. Carpenter, a rookie midfielder has risen through the ranks after initially attending the City Stars open tryouts. Carpenter made a large impression and was invited back to the invite-only combine before being brought on as trialists during the preseason.
Carpenter started at Bethel and was named MCC All-Conference in 2007 and 2008. He was an All-Region selection in 2008, and was also named Bethel College Offensive Player of the Year as a senior the same year. The 22-year old was brought on as a trialist for the City Stars after an impressive performance at tryouts, and went on to score the game-winning goal against the University of Dayton in a preseason exhibition match.
"It was a really long process for me coming from the open tryout to the invite tryout and then going through a few weeks of the preseason without actually getting signed," said Carpenter. "I'm really glad that I stuck it out and I'm extremely honored to be a part of this team. I hope that I can come in as a rookie and really make an impact." Eric also thanked his many soccer coaches, Todd Woodworth, Pablo Rodriguez, and Greg Gidman, who all played an important role in his soccer development. The City Stars are members of the United Soccer League’s First Division and play contests from April through September.

Eric got a lot of playing time tonight...most of the 2nd half...but the Cleveland City Stars lost 3-0 to Rochester...Cleveland's defense seems very shaky and im sure the rain had a major effect on the game
