here's one I remember: I was making a pass (I think to Hess) and Doty was coiled, ready to spring and intercept it so I threw it extremely high, lofting it over him, he must have been 50 inches off the floor and almost stole the pass--incredible leaper

I remenber that intercepted pass. You had really chucked it up pretty high, evidence that you certainly respected his quickness and leaping ability. It was amazing.

My memorable moment was October 13, 2006 when my legs were taken away from me.
To me the glory years were when we had a consistent core of reliable and responsible players likeErdel, Staples, Schmidt, Gabe, Jody, Prenkert, Matteson, Steve Ball, Fox, James Fisher, Guy Fisher, Jim Stump, Dennis... Noon hoops was fun then because you knew what to expect each day.
I just ain't down with the new crew. Too many unknowns and possible injuries by people that I don't know and don't know me. I can get drilled by Bob and like it because it won't be dirty but some of these cats just don't know when to cthrottle down.
I've always been competitive and even hot headed but I've never been dirty or out of control. Being an angry jerk is one thing but at least nobody would ever get hurt by the way I played.
I just hope everybody out there can be safe because at our age (yes, even 38 is old) an injury like mine has been extremely hard to overcome physically and mentally.

I'm hanging with former noonhooper Bain Staples on Oahu right now. Tomorrow I take an inter-island flight to Kawaii.

I think I left Bain off of the all-time noon hoops team--he would at least be a second teamer (and he has maybe 30 years of eligibility left)
and Gabe, tell him I said hello--give him a hug for me.
you guys gonna play any noon hula hoops while you are there?

here's my take: the first year I knew about it, it was played on like T, R, and F. The next year it went to the present MWF format. It was also in Goodman, pre-Weikamp days. There's nothing better than 4 on 4 on the short courts in Gooodman.
What was happening before then?

had a nice lunch at FT on Friday--i always pause at the entrance to find Hess' picture wearing a sombrero on the cork board in the front (I assume it was his b'day pic)

Guy Fisher made a Gabelike 3 pointer today, "best" three I can remember: he was trying to bank a pass off the board to Ted who had inside position on Erdel, instead he banked in the try

don't cheapen it by comparing it to Gabe's shot- it was an errant pass that went in. Gabes is an errant shot that goes in...
