He's gone.
For a better idea on what happened, read the comments being posted by some people on wndu.com.
Time to move on.

Interesting tidbit.
I heard that Coach Al Rhodes was hired by the Superintendent when he coached at Logansport. That Superintendent's name was Dr. Jerry Thacker, and he is currently the Superintendent of...........
The Penn-Harris-Madison School Corporation.
This hire looks like a slam dunk.

That would be cool if it happens. Penn would be getting another amazing coach! Coach Rhodes is an awesome man, and loves teaching and coaching!
Penn vs. Warsaw is on the schedule for next year.
If this hire does happen, circle that game!
I'd feel bad if the two coaches had to play each other, since Coach O. and Coach R. are very good friends... neither wants the other one to lose...
but the fans would be in for a TREAT!
Tommy Kurth, Chris Chaffee, and Karl Columbus
comin' to Warsaw to play
Nic Moore, Ryne Robinson, and my man Taylor Long!
That would be tight, yo!

I think EVERYONE saw this coming...
Al Rhodes to coach at Penn Tribune Staff Report
Former Warsaw coach Al Rhodes will return to the area as the boys basketball at Penn, pending school board approval Monday.
Rhodes, who led Warsaw to the 1984 state title and 405 wins in 22 seasons, spent four years at Logansport before coaching last season at Fort Wayne Northrop.
Rhodes is a 1970 Penn graduate and welcomes the chance to make a contribution at his alma mater.
“I have a lot of respect for Penn because they gave me so much,” Rhodes said Thursday at a press conference. “I’m looking forward to the opportunity to give something back to them now.”
His career record is 454-192 in 27 seasons, including 405-133 at Warsaw from 1980-2002.
Rhodes replaces Dean Foster, who retired earlier this month.

Ever heard of Joe Paterno and Bobby Bowden? He's just a kitten compared to them. I hope he closes out his coachng career at Penn.

Since he is being hired by a high school, is it safe for me to assume that he will actually teach something? I know basketball is way more important than education, but I hope the Penn administration at least keeps up appearances by pretending that his role there will have some educational purpose. Anybody know what he teaches?

If I had to guess, I'd say he's a gym teacher. But that's just a guess.
My second guess would be history teacher.

Just a sidenote, Rhode's mentor at Penn, Jim Miller, was a history teacher, and from all I have talked to was an outstanding teacher. Challenging and informative. Some coaches really do teach.

I agree, blue2blue. I was only saying that in jest. Some of the best teachers I had in high school were football coaches.

That's good, because a lot of students who take my required core history class hate history because they had it with coaches who were much more interested in coaching than in education, and it showed.

Or maybe because it is History? ;D I am messing with you HF. I would probably enjoy a History course much more now than I did in HS or even college.
