I thought it was a no-brainer. It will be interesting to see if Valpo follows them (although I'm not sure Valpo has the resources).

Marquette is blowing Butler out of the gym early in the first Maui matchup. I don't know how much I'm going to get done on this newsletter I'm supposed to be working on with the Maui Invite started. Both teams look sloppy early on, but the Bulldogs more so than the Golden Eagles.

It's back to a game again, but I'm not sure either team will advance far if they play like this against UNC in the next round.

This has turned into quite an entertaining game! Very physical... unfortunately for Butler, they've really struggled from the free throw line. That said, it's still tied at 67 with a minute to play in the game.

WOW!!! Incredibly lucky shot by Clark hitting a running 3 at the buzzer to beat Marquette. He'd been dribbling around midcourt for a few seconds trying to find some space and finally drove hard to his right and hit an off-balance, one-handed heave! What a finish!!! I'm glad Butler beat Marquette and that punk Buzz Williams. I haven't liked them since assistant Isaac Chew bolted for them after only a couple months on the job at Illinois this past summer. Butler moves on to face the winner of North Carolina and Mississippi State.

Nobody talking about Butler beating IU? Great game to watch. On a side note... how bad of a defender is Cody Zeller? Even Crean realizes it with substituting him out late in the game on defense allowing Butler to get a layup. And please tell me what 7-footer plays 37 minutes and doesn't combine a foul while his opponent fouls out? Ha!

That was a great game...
I think IU was exposed a bit today. I think the talk of everyone going pro was a bit premature. Butler is a decent team again, though lacking the depth they had during their first run to the title, their top 6 can compete with anyone. Jones played out of his mind, as did the walk on. I am surprised Woods was a complete non-factor, as I expected him to be a contributor this year. Clarke is one of the countries best players. Hopefully will play well enough to get on the third team AA.

Oh, and will this be the win that nets Butler some top talent? Imagine if Zeller were wearing Butler Blue right now?

They took a ton more free throws than Butler too...I do think Butler was being more physical, but on this day, Butler just played better.

I understand folks calling this an upset, as IU was ranked #1. Given Butler's history, though, in recent years this is not a huge shocker to me. Butler is good and can beat anybody. Ask UNC. In the long run, the defeat doesn't hurt IU that much. They need their weaknesses exposed now, not at end of season, so they can work on them. Clearly they have work to do and Butler again has proved they are a quality team.

I'm sure ole' Roy will have them whipped into shape come tournament time, but right now they're young, inexperienced, and just plain bad.
