Opps.
Talked to a coach at IU-E and he said they are going to build housing soon, and are looking to have closer relationships with other IU & PU regionals (tournaments and such). Ultimately they would like to get out of the KIAC. The conference is much too large in geography.

The NAIA received seven applications in 2011, but only four made it through the entire process and received approval by the Council of Presidents.
Would like to know the three schools who did not complete the process. We have an email into the NAIA, last year they released those names...

Georgia Gwinett will be a NAIA power within 10 years... Probably appearing in National Tournaments and making some noise from the get go... They are serious about their athletics.

One is Cleary Univ. in Michigan.
I would guess Victory U. is another, based on them adding sports, and their handbook that discusses the NAIA.
They have already admitted Coastal Georgia prior to this announcement, that might be your seven.

Georgia Gwinnett will not be NAIA for long. They are putting the resources into the athletic programs right away to move up quickly.

That doesn't make much sense to me. Then way would they even apply to the NAIA and not just go DII? Is that statement an opinion or do you have a source?

Going from no athletics to NCAA Division II would be extremely difficult in my opinion.
With the recent demand for spots in the Div. II ranks, I would highly doubt the NCAA would look favorably at a school trying to make that big of a jump.
If you have any doubt on where GGC is most likely headed do some reserach on the school itself (Founded in 2005, they already have over 8,000 students) with their location and the amount of money they are putting into their future athletic department. From facilities to coaching hires, you can tell they want to be very competitive quickly.

I will probably be learning more about Georgia sports soon, as I am moving there to work at Valdosta State University (NCAA D2) and they take their sports very seriously. So, It doesn't surprise me that other schools in the GA system would want to jump up...

Take one look at their website and see the positions they created and hired and where the people came from to figure out their logic. A Business Manager, from NCAA D 2 Florida Tech, a Compliance Director from NCAA D 2 Augusta State. How many NAIA schools have full time Business Managers and Compliance Directors (that do not coach)? I have been in the NAIA for 14 years and hard to recall how many do.
Plus they have to be sponsored by a NCAA D 2 conference now to be accepted, so that would be interesting to see who would sponsor them.

Peachbelt Conference would take them I'm fairly certain. They are in the heart of the Peachbelt with natural rivalries with schools like North Georgia.
The area of Gwinett County is exploding with growth and they have a plan in place to be a major player not only in education but athletics as a part of that.
It also should be noted that they are not joining a NAIA conference. Your point of hiring the positions they brought on is also very key. Compliance in the NAIA? For what?

Wesley, if I am not mistaken THe Peachbelt is adding Young Harris next year. So that puts them at 14 members already. Just crazy with the amount of expansion over the past four years.
